We had a rock n play and my son hated it after a month. We were gifted a bouncer. I didn't want a swing because we had a small apartment and they take up a lot of space. My son HATED the bouncer and I borrowed my friends swing, which he loved. Go figure.

The bjorn bouncer is the only baby holder that we own. And for LO2 we actually got a second one to have one on each floor. We took one on a beach trip with us at the end of my maternity leave and it was so portable! Also super easy to wash. And I like that it's not something mechanical because then we don't leave her in it for long periods of time because she would fuss.

I got the bjorn bouncer for my second and loved it! He did not love it so much because he always wanted a real person to hold him. but i used it to get ready with him and when big sister was in the bath - I needed something light and narrow for small spaces. He would also be happy to sit in it if someone was entertaining him! We never had a swing or mamaroo or anything so can't compare.

We have this!! It's a swing and a bouncer. It has a much smaller footprint than a dedicated swing, and can be battery operated. We love it!!

I don't have any useful perspective, but was wondering something similar. I saw the bjorn bouncer as well and was sort of intrigued. It seemed from some of the reviews of it though that babies don't really like it until they are a bit bigger and fit more comfortably, say 3 months or so. And then I was wondering if by 5 or 6 months a baby would be more entertained by something like the fisher price rainforest jumperoo, which seems like a similar (and cheaper) concept once they can hold up their heads but with a bunch of toys on it to play with. I can see though the advantage of the bjorn being more portable and blending into a small apartment better.

I got a swing for #2 but I felt like it was only used for 2months tops. It was in our living room and quickly we were too loud during his naps and he needed a quieter place to nap.

I think a Bjorn bouncer is better.

We've had a mamaroo, a swing, a baby Bjorn bouncer, and a taggies bouncer. We basically never used the swing. B never cared for the Mamaroo, W loved it and we used it all the time when he was little - we'd swaddle him, put him in the mamaroo, and he was asleep for two hours no problem. The bouncer was great for an arm break, and for when I needed a shower and they wouldn't go to sleep. I loved the look and portability of the Bjorn but didn't notice any preference from the boys so not sure it would be worth the cost (although I did resell it on kijiji for $80).

All kids are so different with this. Both of my kids LOVED the swing and never cared for the bouncer. But I know plenty of people who said their swing was a waste of money. You just never know!

I vote for bouncy seat. None of my girls liked the rnp. I had a swing for DD1, she liked it just okay; it was a hand me down tho and died before DD2 and we just never got another one. We did get a bouncy seat for DD2 so she could hang out with us when she was young... It was very useful! I got as super cheap Fisher Price one that had a toy bar and it was great!

The swing was an absolute life saver with both of my kids. It was a guaranteed nap until they hit the 20lb weight limit and there were a few desperate nights where I slept on the couch next to a swinging baby. We used it until like 10 months with both kids. Neither cared much for the bouncer.

We used a RnP for night sleep.
We used a bouncer for day naps (ONLY way he would nap... we'd have to physically bounce him and then ease off),
The swing was just for sometimes fun (it was a small portable one).

The swing was the least used, the bouncer and RnP were equal. I liked having variety, though, and separating "places for awake" and "places for sleep."

@SweetiePie: This is a really good point about separate places for sleep and awake. Great thread, and definitely making me reconsider whether a bouncer is worth it.

What about a high chair that reclines, if you are looking for an upright, sitting positioned thing? I used mine for a lot more than just eating, like bringing it near me while I prepped lunch and my son looked on.
