I have an appt. to look into to changing my birth control from the mini pill to Mirena. If anyone has done this switch, what can I expect? If anything.

I haven’t been on the mini pill, but can speak of Mirena. It took a good year to like it, since I spotted for so long. I love it now.
There are lots of previous postings about Mirena if you want to search.

@Alba4: other than spotting, (I've gotten my period the whole time while on the pill so I'll take just spotting) were there any other side effects?

No, I didn’t have the mood swings others talk about. Just a lot of random spotting for months and months.
I do still get an extremely light period now- I only wear a panty liner. No more tampons needed or any other products. It’s great!

@Alba4: Oh sweet!! I could go for that! I was always on the fence but I really hate the pill so this seems the best way to go.

I did this exact change. As soon as the Mirena is placed, you can stop the mini pill and don't need a back-up (double-check that at your appointment though).
I hadn't had my period while on the mini-pill because I was nursing, so when I went on the Mirena, I expected some cramping and spotting and had a very light period. My periods on the Mirena were VERY light and starting to go away completely, which was awesome.
As soon as the Mirena was placed though, I experienced an immediate dip in my libido and a loss of sensitivity during sex. It slowly started to return, but after a year of the Mirena, I couldn't take it anymore and had it removed. But I've heard that that's a very RARE side-effect, so hopefully you don't experience that!

@Adira: Yikes! I have read that and it makes a little nervous. If you don't mind me asking what do you have now?

@bubblegum: I'm on Viorele, which is a desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol combination pill (in Contrast, Ortho-Tri-Cyclen is a norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol combination pill).
I'm liking it so much better, though having to take a pill everyday is a pain. I'm also getting my period again, but it's SUPER light and only lasts 3 days (unlike when I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen and it would be heavier and last ~6 days). My libido also feels back to normal for me.
But hopefully the Mirena will work out for you! I know for most people, it's awesome and they really like it!!

I also had my Mirena removed. My reasons were:
1) change in libido
2) Major impact on weight (inability to lose weight), I suspect had I not been on a very strict diet I may have gained a significant amount of weight.
3) inflammation issues (rashes, mental foggy-ness, crappy feeling)
I had it removed Oct 31st, I'm very happy with my choice. I will say I went through quite a funk right after I had it removed. I feel much better now.

@Adira: good to know! I’m gonna talk to my doctor because I want a perfect fit, if one exists.
@Mrs D: yikes! That sounds horrible. I’m hoping that’s not the case for me
