We are taking LO to his follow up appointment with an audiologist since he referred on the two screens in the hospital. I'm really nervous but even if he does have hearing loss, I know we will get him the best care possible. It's still just scary though. I'm hoping and praying he's fine...

Unfortunately, it seems like LO has a mild hearing loss. The audiologist isn't sure at this point how much is permanent and how much is attributable to fluid and his ears just not being fully developed yet. We go back in four weeks for a follow up and we should have a better idea then of how to proceed.
He has a lot of hearing, she said, but there is some loss. We just have to wait and see how much will correct itself and how much will be permanent.

@septemberlove: Oh my gosh, sounds scary. I will keep your little one in mind through the next four weeks. Hang in there, it could all turn out just fine. It's good that they think at least some will correct itself!
ETA I'm not trying to be insensitive, but as I thought about what I wrote I realized it could really sound that way. Just trying to say that it sounds like regardless of the test his life will be pretty much normal, and you will be able to overcome this with your lo. I can only imagine your worry though, and I'll be praying for you. You are a strong mama.

Aw I know this isn't the news you wanted but it sounds like either way your LO has a good pronosis for the future and that he will live a normal happy life and that's something to be greatful for!

I'm optimistic that he will have a normal life and that he will be able to hear me tell him I love him. It sounds like worst case scenario, he'll have hearing aids and work with a speech therapist to ensure he meets his milestones.
Best case scenario, he may just need a little classroom assistance (like we would just make sure his teachers sat him closer to the front of the room, possibly they'd wear a microphone).
Regardless, we love him and will do everything to make sure he's happy, healthy, and lives a wonderful life. I am a little scared but I was talking to a friend (her LO is completely deaf) and she said "look at it this way, if your LO was going to have a disability, there are way worse things than hearing loss."
I'm just keeping my chin up and praying for the best.

@Mrsbells: he's a month old today, but his due date is Thursday. He was born at 35w3d and spent 8 days in NICU.
