My friend's LO had to put all his animals to sleep just so when he was about that age. And Mama could not be there for that. Then when his friends were settled, he would sleep.

My LO nearly always plays in her cot for a while before going to sleep - sometimes it's for five minutes, other times it's an hour or more. As long as she's not fussing, I don't worry about it. I actually kind of like that she's so good at putting herself to sleep. She's 19 months and has done this since well before she was a year old.

Oh yes. My son is just about 8 months and he too feels the need to explore every inch of his crib before taking a nap. He spends 5-45 minutes talking to himself and playing in there, too, but seems quite happy. I think of it is good time for him to unwind and relax before sleeping.

Sometimes she takes a bit to wind down. Not crying, just not right to sleep. I try not to worry about it since she's not upset. I take a while to fall asleep too!

I Have always heard for adults that if you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow you are overtired! That it should naturally take some time to fall asleep. - Not sure if its the same for kids but I would imagine so.

30 mins is a little long but I wouldn't worry about it
