My MIL just texted and said she and my SIL want to host a Sip n See for me and the baby in April. What usually happens at one?
Is the baby usually held by everyone there? I'm a little worried about her only being 2.5 weeks old and not being vaccinated.

I think it's just a casual get together, open house style. One day to take care of all the people who wants to come ooh and ahh over the baby. Light snacks and refreshments.
I would personally do it a month afterwards so the baby has their first shots?

I like the idea because it allows to get everyone over at once... but 2.5 weeks is WAY TOO EARLY. Not only will your baby be too young and vulnerable to germs, but you will likely still be recovering, exhausted and hormonal. If there is any way to wait until 6-8 weeks, that would be much better in my opinion.

@locavore_mama: our doctor doesn't do first shots until she's at least 2 months old... will that be too old to do a Sip n See? I know she won't be tiny and newborn-ish at that point.

@BabyBoecksMom: We did ours at 4 months because my parents live across the country and that was when we were visiting... DD was a lot more amenable to being held and was much more alert, so I thought it worked out well. I also felt like myself again and actually fit into clothes (which is a plus when you are seeing a ton of people).

We did ours at 6 weeks because that is when we were able to travel to see my mom.
I think it depends not on the age of the child but who all will have seen the child before then. If majority of family and friends will be trickling in and seeing baby here and there, then there isn't much point to a "sip and see" at 2 months.

We get first shots at 8 weeks. I don't know if you're bfing or not but I'm still nursing on demand at a month. I don't mind bfing
In public, but I wouldn't feel comfortable in a large gathering where the baby and I are center of attention.

I would definitely wait as well! We had one at 6 weeks, which was the perfect time for it. And he slept through most of it anyway, haha.

We had one at 4 weeks and it was the perfect timing for us-- C was born in the summer, so I didn't have to worry as much about the flu and colds and whatnot. Most of the aunts and cousins held her, and we didn't allow any little kids to attend.
At that point, we were already out of the house a lot for errands and going out to eat, etc. so I felt her exposure to random strangers and their germs was the same as family members.

I'm debating doing one. Since we're moving into the new house in May, I'm thinking I'll do one then. LO will be about 6 weeks when we do it.
2.5 weeks is way too young, I think. I know I'm not going to want to be at any parties 2 weeks after I have this kid. I'm not going much of anywhere!

Ours will probably be around the 2 week mark. It's J2's 2nd bday so we are just making it a combo party. I'm going with it's "see" not "touch".
