Has anyone given their infant Tamiflu to prevent or treat the flu? Or have you personally taken Tamiflu?

@jh524: probably not what you want to hear but I took Tamiflu in college and had an allergic reaction. My eyes and tongue swelled (but not to the point where I couldn't breath) and I had red spots all over my body. I definitely would not recommend giving Tamiflu to PREVENT the flu, but I think if it's being used to treat flu allergic reactions are uncommon, I was just unlucky.

I don't think infants can take Tamiflu? I had flu a few months ago and I asked about if I need some medication for my son in case he got it also, and I was told children under 2 or 3 (?) can not take Tamiflu.

@irene: it's approved for infants now. It is a great choice for prevention, especially if you are unvaccinated and someone in the household has the flu. The pharmacist said to take a lower dose every day to prevent getting the flu and I'd rather do that than having lo get the flu.
@MamaMoose: yikes! I've read some questionable info on side effects and such. I decided to take half the dose that was recommended and same with lo. I feel like it was a good choice. Sorry you had such a bad reaction, that's pretty scary.

I've taken tamiflu a 5 years ago because I thought I was getting the flu. It was back when H1N1 flu crisis.
I don't remember if I ended up getting the flu. I don't think I did because I remember getting the flu two years ago and that I wasn't sick in a long time.
I didn't have any side effects.

i was prescribed this at 39w pregnant when my swab came back as positive for flu. i was under the impression that it wasn't "approved" for pregnant women at that time, but it was worse for me to have the flu. personally, i would rather load up on vitamin D and other immunity boosters for both me and LO for flu prevention.
