I can't believe I am even posting this but I am really not sure what is going on! I just got my period back at 7 months PP. Tampons HURT. I have tried both cardboard/plastic applicators. I may try the very slim ones in a bit. I have never had this problem so I am sort of freaking out!

They hurt the first few times I used them, too. I think your body just has to get used to them again. I would swap between tampons and pads until they felt ... normal again.

Does it only hurt when you're inserting it? You could try ones without the applicator.

@mediagirl: hahaha I know exactly what you mean by "normal."
I have some left over pads from the early PP days and busted those out. @peaches1038: They hurt to insert and wear. Maybe it is a combo of flow/tampon size/it being 16 months months since I have worn them? Super weird.

I had the same problem after having DS1. It felt like they were 50x bigger than they really were, if that makes sense.
I couldn't wear my old brand. I ended up trying 2-3 other brands until I found one that wasn't so uncomfortable. Somehow that made a difference. I also wore a smaller flow one and changed it more often.
Weirdly, after having DS2, I didn't have that problem and can now wear my old brand.

You may just be drier as a result of hormone changes. Maybe try some kind of lube?

I have the same problem after both pregnancies. I just.. Toughed it out and now after 5 cycles it feels better.

I rarely use tampons because I am prone to TSS, but the few times I have PP, it hurt a lot. It got better when I stopped breastfeeding, but it's still way more uncomfortable than it was before.

I switched to a diva cup. Way comfier. I agree that it might be a lube issue.

They were super uncomfortable for me for a few months. They also don't work as effectively either lol.

@MrsSRS: I actually had to switch back to tampons from the diva cup because my pelvic floor wasn't strong enough to keep it in!

@mrsrain: ah. Then that might be the discomfort. Pelvic floor sort of...drooping and making a different shape. Yeah I haven't tried after the second baby. Because I know it will fail. Uugggghhhh.

I switched to the Diva Cup. But, full disclosure ... It's really uncomfortable on days 1 & 2, so I use a pad. I've heard that the Moon Cup (I think that's what it's called) is a lot softer.
I have some left over pads from the early PP days and busted those out.
