I have a return from Target and missed the return receipt expiration date by a week. Is there anyway to return the item for store credit? Am I better off "losing" the receipt or bringing in the expired receipt? Thanks!

I brought an item back without receipt before and they were able to refund me based on my credit card. They just swiped my card and saw that the item had been purchased there using the credit card? I would probably go the receipt route though and hope they are nice about it since its only a week over.

Target is known for their awful return policies...... but it doesn't hurt to try! I have returned things with no receipt though, they were gifts so they weren't on my credit card. They gave me store credit.

You get a limited # of returns at Target without a receipt. I think it's 5/year? Anyway, you can bring it in without the receipt and they'll give you store credit. I did that with a belt and it was no problem. I do know they limit it (have to see your ID, etc) since people could buy sale stuff then return over and over and make money, or worse, steal things then "return" them sans receipt. But a few times, you're fine!

I would pretend you lost receipt..store credit is better than nothing. They gave me hell over a receipt that was one day old..seriously!

They're pretty hard-nosed here with the return policy. And if the inventory is no longer something they carry, they won't give you anything at all, receipt or no receipt.

@Happygal: this happened to me this week. I had a gift receipt, but the item wasn't in their inventory so i have a pair of pajamas that wont fit anyone in our house for 6 years just sitting in the closet.

@Happygal: Ha, maybe this is why when I tried to return a suitcase I bought during black friday, the receipt (still valid) wouldn't scan and my credit card (on which the purchase had been made) didn't work. Eventually she just gave up and gave me store credit...for a bit more than I had paid lol.

@MrsMenow: we can pout together. Someone gave me a really cute tank in a size small. While I'm flattered she thinks I'm a small, I assure you that I am not! I will pass it on to a truly size small friend.
@Strawberrybee: That's funny! Sometimes flustered workers just want the hassle to be over with. I'm glad it worked out for you.

if they still have the items they will give you store credit. If you have a Red Card you get an extra 30 days

@Happygal: I am pretty sure I mumbled something about not shoppong there anymore because their return policy was ridiculous (seriously the lady when on for 5 minutes about the dollar max you can return on your driver's liscense each year and how I wasn't getting anything even though I had a receipt because they don't carry the item anymore.)

I had a bad experience with an expired gift receipt from our wedding. The store employees were great, but they had to get a corporate override code from someone on the phone that would not budge. (The store manager and person on the phone were arguing pretty hard core at one point.) The manager ended up pulling some strings, which I really appreciated.
You can do a return on your driver's license without a receipt, but it has a dollar limit each year - I think it is $80.00. But, like others have said, the item has to be in good condition and a currently stocked item.

Wow I'm surprised by the bad experiences. I've returned a lot to Target and have had no issues. Maybe b/c it's always within the 90 days? There were a few times I didn't have a receipt and they looked it up thru my cc and one time I didn't and they just gave me store credit. Of course they did the drivers license thing. I would first try with the receipt.
