Ya, seems a bit overboard!

Eww. I might do something nice for them that week if I felt like it, but something everyday is crazy. And I say this as a daycare teacher myself. We never EXPECT anything.

Uh, that is really intense.

Our day care has a theme for every Wednesday for the month. I always tell the teachers "I can do the theme, or I can give you cash for what I would have spent on it all, you tell me what you want". They always pick the cash.

Our daycare does something similar. I don't participate in all of the days and sometimes don't follow their suggestions at all. I think the teachers are happy to be appreciated whether I follow the instructions or not.

ha! You didn't see my post on the other thread about it. We have to do something and dress up for theme day every day.

But I really don't mind. They are grossly underpaid, so I am glad to show them how much it means that they choose to do this job. I am glad that the owners are showing their appreciation too and doing a lot for the teachers as well.

Do you think if I tell my 12th graders next Wednesday is Gift Card Day they'll bring me in a bunch?!

This is my list:

Monday: Wear your favorite Sports team and tailgate snacks for the teachers
Tuesday: Fancy Nancy day, so supposed to wear their fancy clothes and walk the red carpet. Bring breakfast for the teachers
Wednesday: Wear pjs and bring popcorn and snacks for the teacher
Thurs: Beach day. School is providing lunch for the teachers, so they need a min. of 2 parents to cover nap time in each room. What?!?
Friday: 50's day and gift card day. The money for gift cards was collected at the beginning of the year and the room Moms get gift cards for bday, Christmas, and teacher appreciation.

There are 6 kids in her class, so 2 families are providing the food on Mon, Tues, and Wed. I got Mon, so I am just having lunch delivered to them, chicken wings, since it is both on their favorite food lists. The other Mom is going to do some snack stuff and drinks. I already gave the money for the gift card on Monday.

I do I have to say I have no issue with the idea of teacher appreciation. They work really hard to care for our LO's while we are away, and they deserve to be shown appreciation.... I know I certainly appreciate knowing that my daughter is with teachers who really love her So I'm happy to give them Visa cards since that's what they want/need the most. It's the school telling me exactly how and when I should show appreciation that rubs me the wrong way.

I appreciate my LOs teachers, I do not appreciate being told how to best appreciate them... that's a huge burden both financially and time wise. I really don't have the time on my weekends to think of 5 ways to honor LOs teachers next week.

@mediagirl: On Wednesday we had to do one of the following 3 items: write a note, draw a picture, or make a handprint (select the age appropriate option). My husband made the point that if we had time to be doing all these projects during the week, we would be super parents. We get home at 6 and he goes to bed at 7:15. He nurses, eats solids, and gets a bath during that time. Shockingly he's not usually in the mood to do some handprint arts and crafts (and neither are we).

We traced his hand the morning of and called it a day. We wrote "DS wants to give you a [insert hand picture] for being GREAT teachers!" Jokes on us, as no one else in his class really did anything and they didn't even comment on it.

Being told to do something every day - not a fan

We are told that its teacher appreciation week and the DIRECTOR provides lunch one day - we are asked to fill out notes of thanks and that's it!

I do however give gifts on my own

@mediagirl: I'm with your husband. It's their job and daycare is very expensive. I'd tell them it's incredibly inappropriate to post lists like that.

Monday- Marvelous Monday Morning Meal
Tuesday- Thank you Tuesday (have student write a card)
Wednesday- Wish List Wednesday (teacher provided classroom wish lists)
Thursday - Scensation Thursday (gift for teachers favorite scent)
Friday - Favorite Things Friday (teacher provided favorite things wish lists)

If you are able, please show the staff appreciation for the love and support they have shown our children throughout the year. See the attached Classroom Wish List, Teacher's and Office Staff Favorite Things List as suggested items to give. Keep in mind the items listed are voluntary, so do not feel obligated to participate.

Note: The office staff help Weekday run smoothly. Front Office and kitchen did not fill out a form, but do not forget about their hard work.

We received something similar; however, it was incredibly clear that anything that you do for the teachers is completely optional and just a small card with a note of thanks is the best gift that can be given. They're doing a breakfast each day of the week for the teachers, so we were asked to donate something for breakfast each day if we're able to.

I love LO's day care, so I'm doing something nice for each of his teachers, but being told to do something that costs money without it being optional irks me.

Gosh, as a high school teacher, I'm happy when I get a donated pack of pens... Why do little kid teachers get all the love? (Still agree it's weird to tell parents what to do.)

Wow! We haven't gotten any kind of notice. I was proud of myself for planning to bring in a small gift for his teacher + chocolates for the rest of the staff!

Seeing this makes me feel like I live in another world. Gift giving isn't at all big here (most people are actually afraid to give anything because it's uncommon). A few locals outright told me I was "weird" and I'd be doing too much to give individual gifts for Christmas! This list is absolutely cray!
