I still been too scared to give Tylenol, but Kaitlyn has been really fussy the past couple of days and always needs something in her mouth or she will whine. Strangers are pointing out to me that she is teething. I feel like she's been teething for three months! I wonder if I should give her Tylenol if she's in pain? But usually I hear people give Tylenol at night for baby to sleep. Her sleep still seems normal for the most part, just one really odd night waking the other night. She's just been really fussy in the day time. Do you give your little one Tylenol in the daytime for teething?

Teething never bothered my LO that much so she just used ice rings and frozen washcloths.

I personally only give Tylenol if my son has a fever. I don't think it's awesome for anyone to have too much medication. I also thought my son was teething for months but he wasn't actual teething till he was 10 months old. He was tugging at his ear and getting little fevers. Oral fixation and chewing are common in all babies so I wouldn't say she is teething yet necessarily. Perhaps it's her digestive system or she needs more burping? Or maybe she is having a growth spurt. Look inside her mouth and see if you see anything.
Oh and PSA don't use orajel as it is not considered safe for children under 2 years any longer. Try some frozen breast milk in a mesh feeder or a cold way cloth.

I start out with teething tabs or teethers but When my LO is inconsolable, I give her medicine (Tylenol or more often Motrin now). I figured that when I'm in pain, I want relief!

I do not like to give Tylenol (acetaminophen) rather prefer to give Motrin/Advil (ibuprofen). Generally we had been lucky that tablets in dire situations work for LO. But this past month she cut her canines (both sets at the same time!) and those were brutal. That was the first time we had to give her ibuprofen to ease the pain. She was inconsolably crying even while in my arms!
Hope your LO cuts those teeth soon!

I used Motrin at 6 months and older when we had really bad night, like up in the middle of the night screaming, crying.
I have also used Tylenol, but I notice that Motrin works faster (at least for fevers and teething pain).

Shoot, even I'm starting to blame teeth around our house now. I would give Tylenol if she was extra fussy during the day. It does seem to help our lo sleep so, in our case, I would normally give it around naptime. We don't really have a lot of sleep issues either but I figure if it is teething and she is in pain, giving some Tylenol can't hurt.

I wouldn't be scared to give tylenol/motrin--it's there to use if your LO is really hurting! I've given motrin 2x during the day, when LO was inconsolable and miserable seeming (but had no fever). I've also used boiron camilla successfully--it takes about 10 min to work but seems to help a lot!
ETA for fussiness/whining, I wouldn't give meds...I would try distraction or a teether.

I have and there's been no bad responses to it. But I also gave little miss tylenol when she gets her shots (after asking her pediatrician). But then again this isn't my first rodeo.
And yeah, it seems like they teeth forever!

ds' sleep at nighttime was fine but his naps went to shit during teething last time when he was cutting four top teeth. he was a lil fussy but just wanted to be up and play. i tried hyland's teething tablets, but theey didnt really do aNYTHIng. we just waited it out. they came in about 10 days later and his naps went back to normal soon after

@MrsMccarthy: I've seen white dots, like the tips of teeth or something, or about 2 months now. I've seen the beginnings of the splits/slits for 8 days now. Growth spurt, Wonder Week, it could be anything and everything I feel like! Every app says it's something right now... Fussy or in pain, I think I have a hard to differentiating it still.

I did ask at the last appointment about Tylenol dosage and he seemed okay with it. But I've yet to give her any Tylenol or tablets, even after shots. This FTM is a chicken still.

@hilsy85: The Boiron Camilia is the one thing I HAVE given K a ew times since I've seen the change in her gums. She seems to love it. Opening her mouth and sticks her tongue out for the drops. I should probably give them to her more often.

C got seven teeth at once (including 3 molars) and our pediatrician gave the okay for round-the-clock advil (usually 3 doses, one every 8 hrs) for a WEEK. But we definitely knew the teeth were truly coming, and he had little fevers and much distress. Once you are positive that they are coming, I don't think there is anything to fear about gibing meds as long as you are careful about dosage.

@shopaholic: my ped reco's Tylenol too. I'm just not comfortable with acetaminophen for personal reasons. I have purged all baby Tylenol from the medicine cabinet (DH bought the wrong one when LO had a fever the one time).

We have only given the Tylenol at night when she wakes up in the middle of the night and we can tell she is hurting and uncomfortable.
K is 6 months now, right? You can give Advil if you think she is really in pain. I can't cause we are 5 days from 6 months so the doctor's office told me no still when I called yesterday. I would prefer Advil, cause I know it works better on me with pains then Tylenol.

@twobee: Our pediatrician recommended advil over tylenol for teething pain. Advil is an anti-inflammatory, while tylenol has no anti-inflammatory properties. Since teething causes inflammation of the gums, makes sense to me to use advil.

@twobee: @Anagram: for me it's mainly because there has been *some* studies that show overuse of acetaminophen can cause asthma. I know a lot of medical professionals do not believe this. However, we have history of asthma on both sides. DH had pretty severe asthma as a child, so does my nephew and brother. I also know of quite a few parents kids who developed asthma later on and they believe it was caused by over usage of acetaminophen.
However minute the chances due to family history I'm not willing to chance it and prefer to not use it.Also some Bees have enlightened me that over use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage.

@twobee: I just felt like it worked better - my doctor told me tylenol could be used every 4-6 hours and motrin every 6-8, so I also felt like it lasted longer ( = better sleep for her!).

My LO shows clear signs when his pain is really bad. That's when I give the Tylenol/Advil depending on what time of day it is and how long it is until bedtime just in case I need to give more at bedtime. Like @sorrycharlie, I take pain medication when I am in pain...I don't want my little guy to suffer!
@Anagram: That's interesting information! I always give LO water right after giving him any type of medicine. I'm definitely going to keep doing that now!

@locavore_mama: yup, it sucks that all meds can have these possible horrible side effects. I guess it's best to just try to be judicious when using any medication and avoid if possible...or switch back and forth.
