I think especially since you asked about it in June, she could have given you more advanced notice for sure!

Even if they didn't know about it before 2 weeks, why wouldn't they call their own son to tell him about it, instead of a facebook invite. Since it's your inlaws, I think you should try not to be too offended personally, but I'd be offended FOR your husband.

My FIL pulls stuff like that-- like he'll be travelling to an hour away from us, flying into our airport, and won't even mention it to DH. I don't care if he wants to see me or not, i have my own dad, but be nice to your own son!

Ugh, that sucks!!! Especially since you made a point in advance of stating that you wanted to be there and that you'd like to know when it is as soon as they knew anything! What a bummer you had to miss it!!!

I'm curious if you had any follow-up with your MIL though. She originally told you the BBQ was going to be in August, and it obviously wasn't. When August rolled around, did you try to get more information from her about when exactly it would be held?

Your in-laws are definitely more in the wrong here, but I guess now you know that you need to be more proactive about stuff like this since they aren't particularly on the ball with keeping family informed!

i like me some cotton candy, but it doesn't sound like it'd be very fun to fly out of state on such short notice to have cotton candy with a bunch of rude relatives.
