I am hosting, so I will be taking care of the turducken and most of the sides.

I've parceled out the desserts to my aunt so far.

This year we are going to my mom's and I am bringing a dessert, salad, and the ham. She is doing the other dessert, appetizers, rolls, green beans, squash, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.

This year? Bringing a baby LO will be here this Thursday!

Usually my sister and I do the desserts. My mom and her brother do most of the cooking. DH wants to host soon, but our apartment is just too small right now.

This year, I'm bringing the baby and a bottle of wine! We usually go to my parents but it's too long of a drive with too much traffic to do it with C, so we are going to dh's grandmothers. I usually do a side and drinks but will be taking it easy this year.

EVERYTHING! I am hosting, in another country and my in-laws have no Thanksgiving experience. I am just grateful they are willing to humor me and show up LOL. Fortunately I have the whole week off to plan.

Not sure yet. DH needs to call his Dad, we might go there this year on Thanksgiving instead of Friday, so we can get home on Sat verses Sunday. If so then I will bring a dessert that doesn't have to be in the fridge since we have a 4 hour drive.

Side note, why does my DH put everything off? How hard is it to call your Dad?

@looch: @Adira: I actually think it's better to be told, less argument and chance of too many sides/no dessert, etc., no? unless you mean it's a first come - like if you call and offer dessert, you get to, then brother bob calls and has to pick from what's left?

@swurlygurl: It's by convenience. We used to have big extended family Thanksgivings at my grandma's house with all the aunts/cousins, but now that we're all married with our own families everyone just does their own Thanksgiving. After a few years of us and my brother/sister-in-law driving up for Thanksgiving at my parents house (bro and I live 10 min apart, my parents live 2 hours away), which was especially inconvenient for my brother because his inlaws live locally to us so they'd always come up JUST for dinner then turn around to come home-- we gave up. My mom suggested her and my dad come here rather than the 4 of us come to them. And my brother/sil have less than no interest in hosting. So it's here. I don't mind at all because it's not a big production.

@ Adira @ looch @ sorrycharlie. I agree with sorry Charlie - I think it's better that everyone has a category, so we make sure everything is covered - in my family, we typically volunteer for something like dessert or vegetable and then can pick what we want to bring.

This year, we are hosting since LO will only be 4 weeks and I didn't want to travel far, but my parents are driving down on Wednesday and my mom is going to do the cooking.

@looch: @sorrycharlie: @stine_ciro: I meant, I wouldn't like it if someone said "Adira, you're bringing the veggie platter!" and I didn't really have a say. Or they assigned me something I don't even like.

But I'm all for saying "we need 3 appetizers, 4 side dishes, and 3 desserts!" or something like that and then everyone shares what they're bringing so there aren't duplicates, but maybe that means you won't have sweet potato because no one offered to bring it.

I am too particular about what I want to serve, which is why I parcel out things like the desserts and salad. I would hate not to have sweet potatoes, so I would either assign it and hope we don't get the candied ones with marshmallows or make my own!

I am annoying, I know. It's just easier when I say to my brother "bring the salad" because it doesn't matter how simple or complex he makes it. I know it's not glamorous, but they're not offering to host it...so I kind of took over!

Thanksgiving is always at DH's extended family's house (his cousin this year) & I always get stuck with a salad. Nothing to really show off my skills.

We are blending both of our families and my ILs are hosting, which I'm happy about. I've been assigned salad.... I want to do something kinda fancy, so I've been looking at recipes

Nothing! My granny still does it all. Us granddaughters have to wash dishes and clean the kitchen afterwards. But I can probably get out of it this year.

My sister is hosting for the first time this year, and I am bringing apple pie. Yummmmm!

Salad! Kinda boring but we travel a few hours so it's easy to transport. Thinking of fall harvest salad with pomegranate seeds, roasted butternut squash, candied pecans and blue cheese.

@looch, I prefer an "assignment", too, but a general one, like, "can you bring a veggie dish" and then i get to bring whatever i want, as long as it's veggie-based.

The host has the ultimate say, I'm just there to nom

We're bringing the turkey. I'm not making it, though...we're ordering it.
