Have any of you been keeping up with this custody case? Dusten Brown turned himself in today and says his parents have the little girl. I'm curious what's going to happen next. I think it's all a huge mess at this point. What are your thoughts?

I just saw an article on Yahoo about it, so I don't know enough to weigh in, but sounds like it could get pretty heated!

I know Wiki is not the best, but you can get the gist of the case here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adoptive_Couple_v._Baby_Girl
I never heard of the case before your post, but it's pretty interesting. I read a couple of articles and I think it's tricky because he seemed to want nothing to do with the child when the mother wouldn't marry him but when he found out she was going to be adopted he stepped in. I feel sorry for everyone involved, especially Veronica

@mrsjazz: I agree. I hope she doesn't suffer in the long run.
I'm curious why the bio dad didn't thoroughly read the papers he was given to sign. It's silly to sign legal papers unless you fully infrared what they said.

I heard about it on NPR and read a little bit more about it on SCOTUSblog.com. It sounds like an awful situation for the child to be put through. I wonder what "gave up his parental rights" means in this case, but if he told the biological mother that he wanted nothing to do with the child I don't see why he should have rights to stop an adoption. Unfortunately, she's going to have a lot of processing to do from this, since she is now 4 years old (and the father apparently refused to start the transition to her adoptive family, basically "kidnapping". Geez.)

Just a mess. On the one hand, I think it's horrible that he was able to say that he didn't know what he was signing and just undo an adoption and break up a family. On the other, that child has gotten used to being with her dad. How messed up is she going to be, now that she's to be taken away?

Is it weird that I live in SC and have heard nothing about this?
The father is strange for wanting nothing to do with the baby until he was going to be adopted, but she HAS been living with him for the past couple of years. They should really look at her best interests in this.

I think that Brown's parents should be charged with violating the custody order since they currently have the little girl and failed to give her back to the adoptive family. SCOTUS has ruled, SC Courts have ruled. That should be the end of it. Something about Dusten Brown rubs me the wrong way.

It's so sad all around? I remember reading about it a few months ago, or maybe longer, before this most recent ruling. I just can't imagine how much the little girl is going to have to go through, and what the adoptive parents are going through.
