I'm afraid for the next four years. Our country is so strongly divided that very little positive will be accomplished. This is what happens when you are in a recession/depression/economic down cycle. I look forward to the day that our economy is strong (again), unemployment is down to acceptable levels and Americans are able to support themselves without the heavy reliance on a very strained govenmental system.
The strong division is what is bringing out the worst in both sides. While I lean right, I've seen the name calling, ugliness, immaturity on both sides.

Glad it's over, but sad to see some of the racist commentary on my Facebook. Time to unfriend in those cases. I can take a difference of political opinion, but I can not and will not deal with racism.

Thankfully I haven't seen anything negative on Facebook. Maybe my feed's only showing the people I agree with... I'm surprised, though. I have some fairly vocal and mean-spirited right-leaning Facebook friends. (Not that all right-leaning people are mean-spirited... far from it.)

I have the facebook problem too. calling Obama voters ignorant and such. Delete. Most Romney supports haven't said anything, which I'm glad. I haven't said a word as well and I voted Obama.

Some Facebook friends of mine were calling for John Wilkes Boothe to show up and handle business and someone commented that they wished that was a real option.
REALLY?! It is cool to make jokes and insinuations about assassinating the president (or wanting to see a person of any caliber murdered)? Yikes.

@dagret: How can someone feel okay posting something like that? Totally inappropriate.

@highwire: What? I agree that a post like that is totally inappropriate! The worst I've seen are the posts implying all Obama supporters are lazy and abusing the welfare system.

The original status:
"Where's John Wilkes Booth when you need him?"
Someone's comment:
"Pretty positive that may happen actually . We can only hope :-)"
NO. We can hope for a better economy, more jobs, a happier way of life. We cannot hope for someone to be assassinated, I'm sorry.

@highwire: Not only is:
A. that truly inappropriate and disgusting and hateful but
B. wouldn't solve anything b/c Joe Biden would become vice president. and
C. Would practically canonize the president.

I am really stunned at some of the things republicans are posting on social media. I've seen very racist comments against obama, people saying they cantbelieve a black man won another term, and also more comments about assasination.
I have also seen the comments about how most democrats are lazy non white immigrants. It makes me happier that he won.

@highwire: That is awful. I can't believe someone would post that about anyone.
When Bush was re-elected, I was not thrilled. But I never posted anything on Facebook, Twitter, etc. about it. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

@boiledpnut: "Religion has NO place in politics. It shouldn't be used as an excuse for poorly informed decisions." Those were your words yesterday. How is that not an insult to people who vote in accordance with their religious beliefs?
Look, I've no doubt that there are some troglodytes being very poor losers today. But let's not forget that there has been a lot of mudslinging and name-calling going around generally.

@highwire: I can't believe someone wrote that!
So far most of the FB status updates on my feed have been pretty civilized!...

@highwire: Holy cow that's horrific. Some of my in-laws posted a video that they claim is proof that Obama is the anti-Christ, but I think that is worse.

@honeybear: I dont see what she posted as an insult at all. Thats just her opinion about relgion and politics. She didnt say all people who vote based on religion are stupid or anything along those lines. she just said she doesnt think they go together. Are people not allowed to express their opinions on that subject? How can that be compared to assasination remarks?

@dookie32: Whoa, that’s crazy! I have an aunt that posts the most insane Obama conspiracy crap. Articles about how the inscription on his wedding band is a secret Muslim message about his jihad against America; tons of birther nonsense. Just insane stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if she posts a similar video…

@Mrsbells: I did not compare her statement to the assassination remarks. I want to be very clear about that.

@honeybear: It's my opinion that people should do research and fact check and all that good stuff when making political decisions. You will notice that I did not specify any particular party. I think that any person who uses religion as the only basis for selecting their candidate is poorly informed. I think ALL voters should make the best informed decision they can. The only way to do that is research.

@highwire: I would report that to Facebook and maybe even secret service!
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
@highwire: omg, that's unbelievable. Terrifying that there are ppl out there who would say that...

@highwire: I had a fun one of my Facebook last night. Something like:
"Looks like the baby killers have won..."
Thankfully, this "friend" has since deleted their post!
