Thank God it's over... finally. I'm relieved - I'm not excited about Obama, but I was scared of Romney.

I'm SHOCKED by the number of my "friends" on Facebook are calling people who voted for Obama ignorant, stupid, morons, etc. Really people? What are we, 4 years old?

@boiledpnut: hmmmm maybe I should check my FB

@boiledpnut: YES. This. Exactly. How sad is it that for many people (on both sides) "campaigning" for your candidate is equal to nothing but bashing the other?

@808love: I will say that most of the people on my FB are in the South (where I grew up), so while I knew that they'd be Romney supporters, I never expected such......immaturity from them.

@boiledpnut: exactly...I mean, if my candidate hadn't won I would be disappointed but not calling names and prematurely bemoaning the fall of the nation.

@anonysquire: @Arden: NY Times interactive. They don't call them until the votes are in enough one way it another. But they just did - Obama got his 270 without Ohio.

@anonysquire: I'm keeping up on the NY Times election app!

Have to give some props to my state: Maine has just become the first state to vote YES for marriage equality via popular vote. As the old saying goes: As Maine goes, so goes the nation.

Oh goodness, I hope the result stays as is! All of Australia is celebrating the fact that America finally exhibited some common sense and I'm proud to be an American today. If the result changes, I'm going back to saying I'm a Canadian! haha, kidding on that last bit....

And now I can feel comfortable applying for US citizenship for my DD. If Romney won, I would have refrained from doing so unless absolutely necessary as I don't want my daughter being a part of country run by people who value women as second class citizens and don't believe they are capable of making decisions for themselves. Thank goodness that will not be an issue now!!!

@zippylef: That's not surprising. I first moved to London on election day in 2004, arriving the morning after the election, and every English person I talked to for the next week was absolutely disgusted that America would elect Bush for a second term. I always felt as though I had to apologise for my fellow countrymen, even though I would never in a million years have voted for him! Whilst Romney is a thousand times better than Bush, the English seem to very rarely supportive a conservative American politician. At least it makes it easier for all of us expats as we won't have to deal with the shock and disdain had a conservative been elected president!

@boiledpnut: Me too. I'm in a super conservative county in Florida which never sways from the Republican candidate in any election, so I'm not surprised. But it's sad to see so many saying that they're moving to another country and how the only reason people would vote for him was because he was black or they are on government assistance. A bunch keep writing that they're going to quit their jobs and collect unemployment because they want a free handout, too. It's so childish and sad.

  38. boiledpnut

    persimmon / 1180 posts

@bree72: If they want to move to another country, good riddance! lol!

Seriously though, I have never seen such name calling and insults just because people disagree with who another person voted for.
