I know that there are people taking part in the HB book club, but Mrs. Train's post today made me want to read The Husband Project. Anyone want to do this with me in February? I going to find it for my e-reader. We can check in with the daily tasks and share info.

I just read the blog post. How will getting rid of an article of clothing DH doesn't like improve my marriage?

I guess I am in the minority. I thought it sounded like a great idea to remind us to put our marriage first by doing little things. I am a WOHM and am guilty of putting DS and work before my husband all the time. I often wear his sweat pants to bed (super attractive) and go days without telling him how much I appreciate him or how attractive I think he is. I also thought it was great that in Mrs. Train's experience, Mr. Train also started to reciprocate the compliments ,etc. It sounded like it put a little spark back in their marriage and I am ALL about that

I want to do this. I am in. I have already been trying as a 2014 resolution to make a little more effort on myself and in my marriage.
@rahlyrah: I always think about back when we were dating... I would not have worn something I knew he hated! I cared too much about what he thought. So while I love where we are now in our marriage, I would like to recapture a little more of that effort....

PS the only thing about doing this with HB that would concern me would be sharing online about the outcome... maybe we could figure out a way to make it as private as possible?

@lilyann: really? I've been around this site long enough that anyone on here knows I really don't care what you do for a living. Just for you, I will rephrase to I work a job outside the home 45 hours a week. Does that work better for you?

@mamimami: I did! I never went out of my way to change myself, my wants, or my likes when I was dating DH. I'm pretty transparent and always have been. I dress how I like, not how he likes. In a similar sense, I'd hate for him to get rid of/stop doing something he liked just because I didn't like it.
I am all for putting more effort in my marriage, making time for each other, and letting him know how much I appreciate him. However, I am adamantly against conforming myself to some ideal of what a husband wants/what a wife should be.
I should note that my husband loves this about me, so the "project" would probably be a turn off to him anyway!

@mediagirl: I guess I just didn't understand what working outside of the home had to do with the challenge? (I am a WOHM too) Definitely wasn't trying to start anything with you, just wasn't sure what that comment meant.

@rahlyrah: I guess I just have a different POV -- I don't think I changed myself... just tried to "rise to the occasion" in a way.... I am glad we are comfortable enough with each other to wear sweatpants around or whatever, but I have to be honest I like what I see a lot more when he's dressed nicely and I'm sure he feels the same! To each her own

I rarely get time to read blog posts these days, but this thread intrigued me enough to read the mentioned post. If I did a few of these "tasks" in quick succession DH would definitely think something was up! I get that this project provides prompts for wives to do something nice for her husband, but I hate the idea of it being so clear cut and I think my DH would feel the same.
Also "Help your husband get a chore done" made me LOL because he knows I think he doesn't do enough chores as it is so he would be very suspicious if I did this!!

I don't think doing these things is bad per se. But I feel like marriage is a partnership. I would much rather do something like this along with my husband where we work together to put focus on our relationship.... rather than me just doing things and then critiquing his response (or lack there of).

I think this book/challenge looks amazing! It think the point of this book is to act selflessly, and to remind yourself to put others before yourself, and I don't think I could think of a better person to do that with than your husband/partner!

@IRunForFun: @MamaMoose: yes! A two-sided project. But it needs to be short enough to read in 2 minutes or less (because my husband isn't a big book reader but he does read blog posts/articles I send him).

I don't think this book is for everyone, but for wives that want to actively show love to their husbands more & need ideas, I don't think it's a bad place to start!
I wouldn't think everyone NEEDS to do exactly what the book says; I am sure the ideas can be modified as needed (maybe some things don't apply in some relationships).
I don't think this book is promoting a stereotype of what a good wife should be, or telling women to conform to be what their husband wants. I think the message is simple that both a husband & wife can do little things in their daily life to show love & appreciation for one another.
I think it's great to get people starting in thinking about their spouse more often! I am sure there are similar books out there for husbands. I am not interested at the moment though as I haven't gotten around to some other books I want to read first

I will say that although this book on the Kobo book store was under Christianity, I am by no means looking at this from a religious standpoint. I'm Jewish, I'm trying to put more effort into my relationship. I do 99% of the work in the house - he jokes all the time that I should be in the kitchen (he does it to get on my nerves). I know this won't necessarily change my husband, or myself, but an interesting read nonetheless.

Is there a Partner Project that can be done by both partners together? That would be interesting to me. I don't think I'm the audience for this book. Not my cup of tea.
