Do you like being referred to as "The Wife". DH usually calls me "my wife" rather than "The wife" I dont have anything against it, but this one friend of mine uses the term so excessively. Do you like being called " the wife"

My dad calls my mom that sometimes. DH never has. He'll introduce me as "my wife" but when he's referring to me in conversation he'll just use my name. I don't know how I'd feel about it if he called me that.

I don't mind it. My husband and I call each other "hubs" and "wife" as nicknames. We just love that we get to be husband and wife so much!

Referring to a spouse as "the ___" irritates me but so does the nickname "wifey". I understand the cutesy factor but it makes my stomach turn.

I don't know that I've ever heard my husband call me "the wife". I certainly couldn't be bothered by it if he did though since I sometimes refer to him as "the hubs".

He is in the military, so I know he does it to "fit in" and it doesn't bother me in that context. If he did it regularly/in front of me/in front of family and friends, it might bother me, but I'm not sure.
Whenever he calls me wifey, I call him husbandy (and he stops).

Lol @ husbandy... I dont ike wifey or hubby. I dont know why hubby just doesnt feel right coming out of my mouth and some people sa husby but thats hard for me to say too.

@Mrsbells: Hubby sounds dumb to me. And wifey was so corny I had to come back with husbandy.

Dh does this all the time, lol. He uses it in a joking way though. He also calls me "the old ball and chain". I guess he's lucky I get his sense of humor!

DH doesn't call me that but I don't think it would bother me if he did.

@Hilsy85: Lol! After I got knocked up, my DH referred to me as his *baby mama* for a while. Men.

I don't care for "the wife." For some reason, for me, it just has a disrespectful connotation to it. It seems like that term often comes up in the context of "I have to check with the wife," or "I could get that motorcycle if the wife would approve," as if "the wife" is this mean/controlling nag.
