We just brought LO home from the hospital. My ILs are watching my older son. Their other two kids drove down to spend the day. DH's grandparents also came by. And then his aunt and two daughters asked to stop by because they were in town today.
No one asked us, they just asked my ILs. And I don't know why "let's give them at least a few hours at home before company" would've been so hard.
Also, I don't want to hear people tell me I'm lucky I had a premie.

Oh man, I'm sorry. Have you or your DH talked to your in-laws? I would just tell them that you would like some time alone to rest and adjust. I would probably have to have my SO handle it, because I'm not sure I could be super polite. I hope you and baby are doing well!

Wow, I would kick them all out or have DH do it! I had LO at 36 weeks. We came home at 9pm to my parents and my sister, and they stayed that night and left early am. No way I would have been able to have them there any longer, I was already annoyed. We didnt have any other visitors over for over a week, it was so nice!
What is lucky about having a preemie? I got sick of people telling me LO wasn't a preemie, that the Dr just had my dates wrong, ugh!

@jedeve: I'm so sorry. You're SO needs to handle that stat! Or just start crying hard and yell. That for sure rid of everyone quick in the days after we came home after delivery.

I'm sorry! Congrats about your lo! Visitors are the worst. I hope you are able to regain some control over the situation soon or some peace or at least get some support and things mellow out.

Ugh! Hope they leave soon! You can always take the baby and hide out in your bedroom. Maybe they'll take the hint.

I had to be a straight up b with my second and no one bothered me. I was a million times happier than I was with my first! I wouldn't even answer door or tell DH to answer and he can let them know you're resting and not to be bothered.

get your DH to kick them out! you need some time without a full house of guests. your house is full enough with your LOs!

@birdofafeather: agree. DH needs to protect you and tell ask them to give you your space.
Either that or take the baby, go to your bedroom and close the door. DH can bring you water and snacks!

Ugh, I'm so sorry!!! I was a disaster the whole first 6 weeks after Xander was born and couldn't deal with company unless it was on my terms! So I can only imagine how difficult this is for you! I hope you get a break soon!!!

Maybe I'm a jerk, but when L was a newborn, if people stopped by without calling/asking first and I was in no state for company, I just didn't answer the door! I mean really, people tell you 'sleep when the baby sleeps' and then they're at your freaking front door with no invitation? You can call them back when you're up for company and say you were napping when they came by earlier, and that in the future they should call YOU (not your ILs) so you can let them know when it's a good time for company.
I know some people would feel rude doing this, but I don't think it's rude at all! Yes, people are excited, but when I was sleep-deprived and squeezing in naps whenever I could, spending most of my time topless since I was trying to figure out our BFing relationship, and just recovering from childbirth...momma needs to come first!

If you're unable to handle the additional stress of asking them to leave, ask DH to do it. You have done enough hard work already!
People need to be more considerate with mothers of newborns. Yeh, yeh you're excited, but especially if you have been through it before, have some consideration and just CALL and make arrangements before showing up.
This happened to me a few weeks ago and when DH and I sent his aunt away, the rest of the family was not pleased. Too bad. I'm just happy that they learnt and nobody else made that same mistake.

I would totally go hide in my room with the baby and tell my husband to please ask everyone to leave.

They didn't stay long. I just took baby into the bedroom with me.
I can never in a million years picture hearing someone was bringing home their LO from the hospital right then and asking if I could come over. Even if I was out of town.

Ugh my SIL drove back down and wants to stay the night. She is a real piece of work and the impending drama if we were to say no might be more stressful than having her around. LO1 loves her but all she does is constantly stimulate him. She won't change diapers or do anything he actually needs done, but she thinks she is so helpful. Gah.

@jedeve: I think I would still say no. How rude of her! Even before I had a baby, I would never ask to stay the night with someone who had a fresh newborn, especially when that newborn was a preemie as well!
