I'm so tired of washing and sanitizing pump parts! I wash and sanitize after every pumping session. Is it even necessary to sanitize every time? I've seen people mention that they put the pump parts in the fridge between pumping sessions... do you need to rinse them off first? Or just leave everything all connected? Or maybe i just need to buy another set of parts so i dont need to wash as often. What do you do?

I think you can just put the parts in the fridge between pump sessions after rinsing and wash once, at night. If you're going to be pumping a fair amount, I would definitely get another one or two sets of pump parts!

I definitely don't sanitize them every time...maybe 1x/week...oops. And I've been pumping for almost 9 months with no problem. At work, I throw it in the fridge in a ziplock bag, rinse after the last pump and then wash with soap and water at night at home. I would get a spare set though just to relive more stress and pressure to wash right after pumping. Comes in handy if you go back to work!

I bought multiple sets for both home and work. That way I didn't have to do it right away, I could do if after I put him down, did everything else I needed to do, etc.

I just put my parts into a little reusable waterproof bag I have and stick them in the fridge during the day between my two pump sessions - then at night we wash with soap and water and air dry. I only sanitize once a week or so - usually on the weekend. I have two sets of parts so that I can pump again at home with clean parts at night then wash both sets for the next day.

During the day at work I rinsed between sessions and stored in the fridge when I was pumping multiple times a day. I wash at the end of the day, and sterilize...once a month maybe? And LO has made it to a year safe and sound.

@Pepper: I have two sets of parts just in case. I put in fridge between sessions and wash once at night.

I stuck them in a big ziploc bag and stuck them in the fridge. Usually washed every other day cuz i'd forget

I just rinse in hot water during the day. I wash with soap at the end of the day.

I store in the fridge and wash every two days. I sterilize about once/week. Do you have these bags? They make it a lot easier!

I use the quick wipes at work and then wash at the end of the day. I sterilize once a week. Or once every two weeks. Maybe even longer than that. If your hands are clean when you pump and the surfaces are clean then I would t worry too much about sterilizing every day.

I have two sets of pump parts. I would only use one set each day and just rinse them in between sessions and wash them each night.

I just wipe dry after each pump session during the day at work and put in fridge. I soak in soapy hot water when I get home. Sanitize once a week.

I have a billion sets. I do the fridge in a pinch, but the valves can get a bit sticky, so definitely rinse. I quit sanitizing after lo was a couple of months old.

This is great! Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to order more parts, rinse and store in the fridge between sessions, wash once a night. Should get me in a good routine for when I go back to work this fall.

I second the microwave steam bags by Medela for sanitizing! I sanitize once a week and they are awesome!
