I like the exergan head thermometer and find it very accurate throughout multiple readings. I bought it after the 3 standard thermometers were varying by more than a degree the head thermometer comes with an insert describing very specifically how to do it and how to troubleshoot...? I press firmly to the skin, click and hold the button, drag it across the forehead to the temple to the right, release the button, then check the temp. Then I wait about 5-10 seconds and repeat on the other side (to the left). It is important to hold the button only when it is touching skin, otherwise it will read the air temp.

We also have the Braun ear one and I have found it to be accurate (within 1 degree) when compared to a rectal thermometer. I bought mine at Target.

I have the exergen temporal thermometer, too, & like it. I usually do 2-3 readings on LO & at least 1 on me to feel confident in its readings, but felt that was more about my technique, not the instrument itself.

Eta: I was surprised after LO's last ear infection at 11 mos, she seemed to actually hold especially still to let me do the reading & then we'd "read" the temp together. I don't expect that to last, but it was cute.

I purchased the Braun digital ear thermometer after our Exergen temporal became even more erratic than usual. I never trusted it, and LO rarely cooperated.
I love the Braun. It's fast, lightweight, seems accurate, and LO has quickly adapted to it. The only downside is that while the area around the digital face lights up, you can't actually see the reading in the dark, which is annoying but not a deal breaker.
