Was labor/delivery easier with LO#2?

Yes definitely. My active labor was about half the amount of time. Transition was much shorter and I only pushed a few times and she was out compared to pushing 45 min with ds.

Yes!
Labor came on faster the second time and was shorter. Pushing was 20 minutes instead of an hour and recovery was easy!

Definitely faster with a better recovery but I had a much bigger baby and second time around, my only intervention / med was gas for pain relief.

Oh yes. 36 hours of active labor with my first (nine hours!!! in transition naturally before going to the hospital after a planned home birth) compared to about 3.5 hours of active labor with my second. Only an hour of labor hurt with my second.
And both of my kids were right at about 9lbs plus or minus a few ounces so it wasn't like my second was significantly smaller than my first - and yet it was still so much easier!

It was a much quicker labour the second time around, I didn't need any interventions at all (ended up on Pitocin with E) but A was much bigger (8lb6oz vs 6lb12oz) and had a nucheal hand so the ring of fire was much... firery-er. Recovery was great both times.

It was easier, but I had to be induced for LO2. Well, I guess I was kind of induced for LO1 too (Cervadil but no Pitocin).
Delivery was MUCH faster, and the poor nurse had to actually hold the baby in while we waited for the Dr to hurry up and get there

@prettylizy: I've never heard the term nucheal hand before, but that's how my daughter came out too! Definitely fiery-er!
@mrsjyw: both my labors were pretty similar, but I had easy labors both times

@swurlygurl: What, that's crazy! A friend of mine's dr was still scrubbing in when that happened to her and the dr yelled at the nurse to catch the damn baby
honeydew / 7091 posts
@blackbird: I was *really* sore afterwards, because she was probably ready to come out for like 10-15 minutes! Since I was induced no one thought it would happen as quick as it did. I went from a 2 to a 10 in like 20 minutes, and then 2 pushes and she was ready!
Easiest money that Doctor ever made... haha

labor was less painful and faster, but i still pushed for over an hour because her head was stuck at a funny angle. recovery was WAY easier too.

Yes! I had no pain, first time pushing was brutal. Minimal tearing, could walk afterwards with second.
papaya / 10560 posts
Ha. Well...in some instances, yes! I had way less tearing and no episiotomy. I swear it was because I had dd while I was standing up versus laying down. Was it super painful though? Heck yes, just as much! Recovery was way easier though.

Ah! I'm scared that so many of you said that the 2nd was much more painful! The first one was no picnic!

Labor was (I went into labor on my own and was 8cm by the time I got to the hospital & got my epidural-- I was incuded w/ #1).
Delivery wasn't. Harry was 10 lb 12 oz (Char was only 8 lb, 15 oz), and I hemorrhaged afterwards and lost a lot of blood. They kept me in the delivery room overnight instead of having us go up to the postpartum floor.

@matador84: Well at least you were ready for that part then?! Ha.
nectarine / 2217 posts
easier!
I also knew to try and keep my body as relaxed as possible, at least my hands/neck/arms, because during the first I clenched like mad and was sore for weeks!

Yes! With my first, I labored for 16 hrs with 3 of those hrs spent pushing! Second baby, 7 hr labor, 20 mins pushing! It was soooo much easier the second time around!
honeydew / 7811 posts
Much faster/shorter, more painful. Traumatic. But my physical recovery was way easier and quicker.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
Yeah, easier even though I went med free the second time.
pineapple / 12234 posts
Yes & no since my labor was rough the second time because I was induced but I knew how to push effectively.
The third time was a breeze though!!

Labor is labor, always hard work, but much easier than my first! Pushing was more efficient and much shorter, although the actual labor time was the same. My second had a smaller head, so recovery was much better too.

Yes! My first was 8 hours and 3 of those were pushing. Recovery was okay though.
My second was 2 hours and only the second hurt (a lot though since it is labor after all). I had him within 6 minutes of arrival at the hospital. Recovery was great! Up and moving right away.
I will warn you about your uterus contracting. It hurt so much more...like contractions. I wasn't aware that it would be so painful but the nurses say it is more painful with each child because the uterus needs to work harder to shrink. Good luck! @mrsjyw:

My first time I was induced and had back labor. Brutal.
The second time was totally unexpected and insanely fast. I had no signs labor was going to start before my due date. So fast. As in contractions began at 2.5 minutes apart, baby crowned in the car, one push, 2.5 hours total. Incredibly painful. Recovery was a lot easier. I tore both times so that wasn't anything new.

Oh yeah. My second labor and delivery was AMAZING.
Pushing still sucked but she was sunny side up so it took a good 45 minuted to get her out.
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
yes it was waaay faster. plus i got the epidural right away so i was cruising!
apricot / 425 posts
YES! My first was 18 hrs of un-medicated labor, 4 hrs of pushing, and an emergency c-section. My second was a planned c-section. Recovery has been so much smoother, simply because I didn't put my body through labor before surgery
