Apparently, Alicia Silverstone feeds her son like birds do - chews it in her mouth and then gives it to him. Would you do this?

I saw that yesterday and was grossed out; and I usually have a low threshold for 'grossness' as far as parenting/kids. I would go as far as eating half of what future LO doesn't finish or visa versa, but not to Alicia's extremes of bird-feeding.
Edit: it's not the pre-chewing that grosses me out, it's the way she fed her LO afterward.

I didn't prechew everything we gave DD, but if we were eating dinner and she seemed interested, I would give her some that I'd prechewed.

@mrsjyw: pretty sure i ate a grape last night that the LO had spit out but it was not chewed up.

I saw that last night and thought it was pretty ridiculous. Who does that? Obviously Ms Silverstone is still Clueless.

That is so strange. Hollywood tries a little too hard to stand out from the rest of us.

That is weird. If it is too chewy, maybe the LO isn't ready to eat that yet? Or just cut it up into a small enough piece that it would be manageable?

My parents pre chewed my food when I was a baby..
Not gonna lie, I've done it for my LO too. HAHA.

Er, no. Don't they need to learn to chew? Isn't that the point of giving small bits of table food?

This grosses me out. That is what we have knives and blenders for.

This is SO bad for kids' dental health because it colonizes their mouths with all your adult bacteria. Hello cavities and dental problems. Same deal when moms put the binky in their mouths to "clean" it off. I guess if you've never had a cavity, it might not be the worst thing, but if you have bad teeth, you are perpetuating that straight to your child.

yeah..it grossed me out as well. I didn't even click the article when I was on people.com because I just didn't want the visual!

hahaha, that's hilarious! I definitely won't be doing this! But I'll try not to judge others (though please don't do it in front of me, I'm squeamish)!

I think it's a little gross but volksgirl64's reasoning doesn't seem all that bad.

Yeah, I'm not comfortable with this.
Though my Mom used to "start" my apples for me when my teeth weren't strong enough for the first bite.

I saw this last night and thought it was disgusting. The prechewing didn't really bother me but the bird feeding was so weird. If she wants to prechew his food, she could hand it to him.

no thats weird. its one thing to bite something for a baby such as a piece of apple if you dont have a knife handy but to actually chew it first is just odd

So I just watched the video.. YIKES! She's a mama bird!!
I used to chew meat a couple of times and finger feed it to my LO.

Yikes. . I don't even want to watch the video. I do the same as @chopsuey, not the whole birdie thing.
The first time I ever pre-chewed was at a Thanksgiving feast and got a shocked look but it came so natural to cut up a green bean for my baby. I think I might stop because maybe I really am giving her some strong germs. My babe has been getting sick a lot. We also let her chew on our toothbrush. That's not good.

Yeah no. That's beyond disgusting.
I'm all for being vegan and loving the earth and all that but seriously? ewwww

I don't understand why you can't just stick it in a food processor?
