I need to paint our playroom and I was thinking about chalkboard paint on the back wall..... HOWEVER, I am a neat freak and I wonder if it will drive me nuts. Do you have it? Love it, hate it?

We have an easel and the chalk dust gets all over the carpet. I think a whole wall would drive me crazy.

@kiddosc: We have an easel. But that's set up to be painting and dry erase.

We have a small wall in our kitchen. Dust does collect at the base. And D has now discovered the "fun" of clapping the eraser against the wall to make it "smoke." If dust bothers you, then I'd skip it, or at least start with a small section and not the whole wall.

I definitely wouldn't do an entire wall, we have a small section and LO makes a total mess with it, but she does love it.

Not a fan--they often look messy unless you really get in there and wipe it clean.

I love the look and would do it if we had a designated play room.
Growing up my dad mounted a chalkboard in my room and while that area could get a little chalky a handheld vacuum cleaner tidied up the floor quick.
This play room wall makes me swoon!

We have one and I think it's fun. . We don't use an eraser, though, just one of those microfiber cloths wet with water. It keeps the dust down to a minimum. I don't find it messy, honestly. But it's not like he uses it every day, so maybe that helps?

My friend has one in her kitchen. I think the kids use it more to paint with water than actual chalk. I think it would be difficult in a room with carpet. Hardwood or something similar would be easier to clean.

We have a semi-wall painted in the kitchen. Easy to clean, and the dust falls on the linoleum and not carpet. Not sure how I'd feel if it were a wall in another room.

If the playroom is carpeted, I would probably avoid it. Knowing there is a layer of chalk would drive me nuts. Also, the thought of broken up chalk on the floor...Lo2 eating it...you get the idea.

They now have dry erase paint too! It might not look as cute but would be just as fun for kids and not as messy

I'd be afraid that it would be hard to paint over in the future (dark color plus chalk buildup, which doesn't totally wash away). Instead, would get a large piece of plywood, paint that with the chalkboard paint, and mount it to the wall. We might do this eventually...right now, DD is in love with the learning tower I built her because I painted the larger boards on the sides with chalkboard paint. Drawing on it (or more accurately, pointing out what I have to erase for her) is one of her new favorite pastimes. I can deal with the mess if it manages to keep my kid occupied for more than 30 seconds!

I think they are too messy and also teach kids that it is okay to write/color on walls (not a lesson I want to teach).

I don't think I could do it, but my friend painted the smooth side of a hardi board from Lowe's/home Depot with some and screwed it into her fence posts outside. It's a HUGE hit with all the kids.

@BandDmommy: we had a whole wall done when we were growing up. My mom vacuumed ALL the time, because chalk dust is so messy. We loved it, but from the neat freak aspect, it's messy.

I know I would have a huge issue with this because I would need it to look perfect all the time, with perfectly spaced, vaguely artful drawings on at all times - like the picture above. I struggle enough with E messing up her perfectly staged bedroom (I have a problem).

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: is it sad that I immediately thought Kardashian when I saw this. I googled it and it is their play room Haha

I like the idea of a chalkboard wall, but decided against it for our house.

@Mrs.KMM: teaching kids that it's ok to color on the wall is my biggest issue with chalkboard paint too.

We had part of a wall painted like this in one of our apartments in university and it was pretty messy. I wouldn't do it again.

@Mrs.KMM: Hmmm. I hadn't considered that possibly confusing aspect of it.
@abbydabbydoodlebug: what a great way to get your children outside to play! Very clever.

I think in a playroom I would get a whiteboard instead. They have nice big ones at Ikea.

We have a chalkboard craft table. The dust doesn't get on the floor as much as it does with chalkboard walls.
I couldn't handle the dust mess of a chalkboard wall.

We have one and it does get dusty but I mean we vacuum regularly so not really an issue. It honestly doesn't get used much though.
