Tell me your induction tips. We are scheduled to go in tomorrow night. The dr said it might take a while because I'm not dilated and my cervix is not favorable.

I don't know that I have any tips but I went in at 1cm at night to get the misoprotol pill vaginally. I was ten days late and took to it rather well and wound up only needing one dose to get labor going. I would just go in with an open mind and try to relax. My MD had told me that I might not have a baby until Thursday (took the pill Tuesday night) but he was were at 250PM Wednesday! I wound up needing pitocin in the morning probably at about 11 -- which is later than they expected. Are you past due?

My biggest tip is to go in with an open mind and to keep the main goal, a healthy baby, in mind.
I would also add that just because you're being induced doesn't mean you lose all control over the process. Remember that you still get the make all the decisions about what happens to your body and your baby.
Oh, and eat a BIG breakfast!

I'd suggest taking some good books, movies on an ipad, whatever. Consider scheduling close friends/family for visits in the early parts while you're just waiting for it to get going. My induction was started with cervadil at noon on a saturday, and it was the evening before I was really contracting seriously. I was bored before then.

I was the same way, not favorable at all but we still had to try because she was getting so large.
In the end it was a great experience. I responded really well to the cervidil. The night was long because they wanted 3 hours of constant monitoring when we first started and then they would just check for a few minutes every hour. Aka no sleep that first night. I wished I had almost asked for a sleeping pill or something.
The next day we watched a lot of movies, listened to some music, etc. Like others say, I felt fine between contractions but totally had to mentally check out during them.

@OpinionsLikeKittens: yup I'll be a week past on Thursday.
@Ash: right. Thanks
@T.H.O.U.: my dr mentioned I should take a sleeping pill

@MrsH: If you're past due I think you typically have better luck with an induction vs. someone that is getting induced early for other health reasons. My cervix was "long and hard" up until the pill and I had a pretty easy time. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed, but I was really nervous and things worked out! Good luck!

Eat! Also, I was not dilated or effaced AT ALL when I was induced and mine went really fast and I delivered vaginally. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

I was induced with a foley catheter and pitocin at 37 weeks. I was not dilated or effaced at all either. We ended up still getting the vaginal/ no epidural birth I hoped for.
Just prepare to hang out. If it is your cup of tea, arrange for someone to give you a massage, especially (or only) hands and feet. Coconut water (from harmless harvest because it is yummy) helped give me energy when it seemed like it had been forever since I ate.
And just fyi- I was worried that induction would make labor harder to bear but it was still manageable.

Like everyone else has said - eat, rest, load up an ipad or laptop with music and videos to distract you. On the subject of eating, I had the L&D nurses give me advance warning for when they thought I'd be put on liquids/ice chips only so I could squeeze in one last meal order.
I was not effaced or dilated when I was induced and was able to deliver vaginally (drug-free was never a priority for me, so I can't speak to that. I'm a big baby about pain.)
Being able to sleep the first night was really critical for me. I'm not sure how I would've had the energy to push after 36 hours without a decent night of rest so the sleeping pill sounds like a solid plan!
Good luck!

Definitely eat like everyone has said! If they give you pitocin I recommend getting the epidural. Those contractions are really painful and the epidural won't potentially stall labor like they would if you were having natural contractions per my Dr. I got the pitocin and epidural at 3cm and got to 10cm in less than 3 hours. DH and I were shocked I progressed so quickly. Goodluck!

Definitely make sure you eat before and/or order something from room service before they say you can't eat anymore!
My cervix was completely shut tight when I was induced 10 days overdue. Labor was 15 hours and then 5 hours of pushing. Everyone's different.
