Sorry you are dealing with this! DD had the same issues and a couple things helped ease her. I only bathed her every 2-3 days and in barely lukewarm water since hot water dries out the skin. Skip the soap and if you want to soap his bottom, wait until the very end to soap rinse and get him right out to avoid soap exposure to his eczema patches. When he's out of the bath wrap him loosely in a towel and lotion up while he's still damp (no need to dry him first). I went through every lotion possible and CeraVe worked best along with Aquaphor for the spots to seal it all in. We also used a ZipadeeZip for over a year, during when DD's eczema was worst, so her hands were covered and couldn't scratch at her face in her sleep. My son had really bad eczema from the time he was about 3 months old. We met with a pediatric dermatologist and she had us doing a regime of steroid cream & Aquaphor 2x a day that worked really well at preventing flare ups. I know cotton PJs were also big for helping everything absorb at night.

@Ash: We used the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (the one that comes in a tub). I applied it liberally at every diaper change! We only did Aquaphor on the tough spots on top of the CeraVe cause of the globy mess lol. I agree with the cotton - we try to only dress DD in cotton for the layer directly in contact with her skin since it's breathable. One other thing I also did during the worst period was put old-fashioned oatmeal in a clean sock during bath time and squeezed the "oatmeal juice" (sounds gross I know...) onto those spots to help sooth.

I battled eczema spots all over my son's body and have mostly won the war (still battling a few spots on his legs). I've found the key is moisture, moisture, moisture! He gets a bath every day because he loves his bath time, but I only use soap every 3 days. I am a BIG fan of the Aveeno baby oatmeal baths and they seem to really help his skin. When he gets out, I coat him in Burt's Bees lotion on his body, then use the Baby California Calendula cream on his face, then use Aquaphor on the bad spots. In the mornings I repeat the lotion process again to start off the day. It's a pain and my LO fussed about it at first, but now he seems resigned when I drag out the lotion bottles

@Ash: we've never used any lotion/ointment/creams for diaper changes. Her exzema isn't in her diaper area though, and she's never had diaper rash.

For the CeraVe, we use the lotion most often, sometimes the tub of cream. The Shea Moisture that I use on her face comes in a small tube, so it's more like a cream or super thick (but not sticky) lotion. I get the Shea Moisture products at our local health food store, but they have a store locator function on their website. Good luck!

ETA: LO's dermatologist said to make sure I was really slathering her up with lotion - he seemed to think slathering was the key, and using more lotion than I did previously has helped!

@Ash: oh sorry, derp, I probably misread! I usually only lotion her up once a day at bedtime. If her arms feel rough at all during the day I'll put a little extra on, but usually once a day is good.
