What did you do or do you plan on doing?
We are making a concerted effort to start potty training on dh's next set of days off and I've heard advice both ways.

we use(d) training pants for nap time and night time. I've only bought two packs. He wears undies for naps now and has after the first couple of weeks. I'm going to use the ones we have until we run out for nighttime and then just go cold turkey as far as nighttime, he's probably 75/25 staying dry overnight.

Originally we decided to use underwear during the day and diapers at night, but the diapers at night became a pain because DS gets up 1-2 times a night to use the potty, so we switched to pull-ups at night. We could probably switch to underwear, but I'm scared (even though he's been nighttime dry more consistently than daytime).
