My 20 month old daughter has suddenly become deathly afraid of the bath. She used to run to the bathroom after dinner every night excited for "BATH BATH!" Now when we tell her it's bathtime, she says NO! The past two weeks, I have actually gotten into the tub with her and once I'm in, she's been okay. Last night, she SCREAMED the entire time.
Please tell me this is just a phase and it will pass! Any suggestions???? I've already tried new toys.

Maybe she is worried that she could go down the drain? We talked through this issue a bit and showed C how his toys don't fit down there so he wont either. Also, C was like this after a bath tub pooping incident. It was all happening around 20 months - maybe just a stage all kids go through at some point? It will go away - I promise

also, she just might be resisting the first step of bedtime. That happens for us sometimes too. blahhhhhhh toddlers are so difficult sometimes.

For us it was a stage - it lasted 3 weeks and just as quickly as it started it was over.

My DD was scared of the bath but she is younger than your DD. Have you tried a shower? That helped my DD and she loves to shower now

@Worrywart: We went through this phase for a week or two. Eventually it cleared up. I find the shower isn't always better but it's FASTER and so much easier to get in and out...

DD went through this just over a month ago and literally looked like she had seen *insert most horrific thing ever here*. I posted about it and it seems a lot of toddlers go through a bath fear around the age of 2. Maybe it's their sudden awareness to surroundings? It was a stage and, like the mommas suggested, went away after a couple weeks. Just hang in there for now! I think I was soaking wet from bathing her those weeks because when I finally plucked her out, she would cling to me for dear life sans towel.
