The Lion King (the musical) is coming to my town. Have you taken kids to it and what age were they/what age would you recommend taking them at?
thanks!

I have only taken my son to Disney on Ice (a little before age 2), but I have seen the Lion King myself. It's pretty engaging with all of the animals. They even walk down the aisle at the beginning. I think I would maybe take my 2yo. He last 40 minutes at Disney on Ice, but with an intermission, I think there is a chance he could do the whole Lion King.

I've also seen the show and think my 2 year old would sit through it well because she loves songs and animals. I'm just cheap and wouldn't want to pay full price for her!

D would definitely sit through it, and he's 2.5. He loves the Lion King movie and he insists that we listen to the soundtrack in the car. However, we're waiting at least another year because right now he's absolutely terrified of masked people/creatures. He'd be completely freaked out.

Thanks for your responses. Mine is 2 as well and the more I think about it, the more I think the masks might scare her. In another year or two tho, I really want to take her. She loves music so much.

@Jumpingjacks: We're taking our LO to NYC in a month and I looked into seeing the Lion King but their website says they don't recommend it for children under 6. Mine's only 21 months so we decided against it.

@Jumpingjacks: OMG, I would give my arm and leg to see the broadway Lion King again!
We took our 20 month old to disney and she did great at all their big shows. She's pretty friendly and outgoing and only had a few shy moments where she just wanted to see the characters but didn't want to go up and hug them.

When I was 4, a few actors from the musical Cats came to my school and scared the $*(@(*~# out of me. I vividly recall being only one of a few kids who ran out of there crying, so perhaps 4 is the age when most kids are ok with the masks!
Personally I wouldn't take my daughter until she is around 6 or 7, given how expensive the tickets are.

I agree that I wouldn't take my LOs until they were much older. There's no way my 2.5 yo would sit through it and he would freak out at the costumes. It wouldn't be worth the money to me.

my 3yr old DD is absolutely obsessed with the lion king, we could watch it every day. still, I think she would freak out at the show, I remember they do come down the aisles at one point, and I don't think she will have ability to stay still in her seat.

I just had friends who went to the Lion King on Broadway and were really pissed about a couple of crying/loud/unsettled toddlers behind them. The show is really different from the Disney movie--I wouldn't say it's toddler friendly. Maybe age 5 and up.

Maybe 4, 5 would be better. If they watch and understand long movies then it might be ok. It is different than Sesame Street live or a kid geared show.
