My son (2.5) is too big for his Pack N Play, but not ready to sleep on a raised bed. He has trouble falling asleep in bed with us, so that's not usually a good option either. Does anyone have tips for toddler sleep arrangements while traveling?

The shrunks inflatable bed. You can find it on Amazon. It uses crib sized sheets. We started using this at about 2.5 and our nearly 4 year old will still sleep on it.

our kids always sleep on the floor just fine. one less thing to worry about!

@Mrs. Bee: I like this less is more philosophy! Do you bring anything extra for them to sleep on, like sleeping bags? Or will they use extra hotel blankets, etc?

@MamaG: Interesting! Are they easy to blow up and deflate? Do you know if brick and mortar stores carry them?

We've often made a little bed out of blankets while traveling, if there isn't just a bed for her to sleep in.

@MamaG: we just got this thing and I am obsessed. j slept like a rock on our recent trip. Would definitely recommend.

@sometimesshesings: it comes with a small electric pump. Goes up and down quickly.
Hotel floors are gross. Walk in them in plain white socks and you probably won't want to let your kid sleep on it.

Ugh we have to deal with this at the cottage in August. Everyone will be up at the cottage and there is no room for a pNP in our bunky. LO will have to sleep on a bottom bunk. This will be the first time for us.

I am in the market as well, I think we are going to try the Shrunks one.

We got something similar at Walmart on our last trip. He did great in it.

@sometimesshesings: We did just a twin blow up mattress that we had. It worked great and if she fell off it wasn't far to fall.

I got the inflatable toddler mattress from Walmart, I would assume the same as @travellingbee: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Intex-Toddler-Airbed-Tan/22899906
You can buy an electric pump for it separately if you need one. I inflated it using their "high output manual pump" and it wasn't /too/ bad. Definitely got a bit of a workout ;). We haven't used it yet since our vacation isn't for a few more weeks. E is just a month shy of 2yo, and still sleeps in a crib.

@sometimesshesings: we just put the blanket on the floor then they sleep on top of it. they weigh less so it doesn't hurt their backs.

i use an inflatable bed from the shrunks. I always get hte 2 queen bed room, and stick the inflatble between the 2 queens so she doesn't roll off.

Update: he slept on the floor last night on a pad of blankets. He was really excited about it at first, but he did NOT want to stay in "bed". My husband had to stay with him on the floor until he settled enough to fall asleep. Then he woke up about an hour later and threw an epic fit. I think this had more to do with traveling than the sleep arrangement, but he did say through tears that he wanted to go home and sleep in his own bed. He's always been a good traveler, but 2.5 has been an emotional time! Wish us better luck tonight! He was happy as a clam when he woke up, so that's reassuring...

@sometimesshesings: Aw, poor thing! I hope tonight is better. Can you sell it as a treat (i.e. he's "getting" to camp on the floor)?

@StrawberryBee: We have this one too. Last night was our first try with it and it went really well. I liked the bed part being recessed all the way around so she stayed in.

We use the Kidco travel tent for my 2.5 year old and it's great because he can't unzip himself out of it. He'll be able to use it for another year or two at least. It's so light weight and fits anywhere!

@sometimesshesings: we had this exact same issue last weekend. dh used the pack and play and the entertainment center in the corner of the room to build an enclosed area a little bigger than pnp size. we put blankets on the floor and filled the pnp with stuff so he couldn't move it. I think he needed the security of a small space since we were away from home, even though he normally sleeps on a floor bed.

@Mrs. Lion: that's a great idea! If we can find a safe way to create a nook, we'll try that tonight. Thanks!

Following for ideas. My 2 year old is an awful sleeper when we're on vacation! He can't handle sleeping in bed with us, just thinks it's playtime, and he also hates being in the travel crib. The air mattress seems like a good option to try.

We have the Aerobed toddler mattress and it's been great! He had trouble sleeping on it the first time, mainly because he was just so excited, but he does wonderful on it now. We use it regularly. I highly recommend it.

The shrunks toddler bed is great. I wouldn't want to make LO sleep on a floor.

@BananaPancakes: We use the same one and have really been happy with it for the past almost 3 years. I use a spare twin size fitted sheet over the flannel cover and a toddler sized down comforter and we are set.
