I got an incident report from daycare saying LO was pushed in the bathroom and she fell backwards, landing w/ her neck on the stool. She's acting fine (a little fussy), but definitely stiff in her neck. Would you wait it out or take her to the ER? I'm worried about head injuries...

I called the after hours line and they said that, because she's stiff, it's a red flag for possible damage to a vertebrae so they want us to take her to the ER for Xrays. ... Ugh... We're trying to figure out what to do.

We went through something similar except DS2 hit the front of his head. They said injuries to the back of the head are more serious... I'd take her in. Sorry!

@BabyBoecksMom: I would take her, without question. It sucks to visit the ER, and I've been overly cautious before too (my lo fell at a park and hit the bottom of her face on a metal bar on a playset, and then started throwing up 10 minutes later...I couldn't ignore the vomiting even though I didn't think she hit hard enough to cause a head injury so we went and spent 4 hours of monitoring at the children's ER)....If my ped had told me there was a red flag, I would definitely go.
I hope she is okay and that it is a totally useless trip to the ER!

My ped told me no ER following a head bump unless she vomited 2+ times or was acting differently. But it sounds like your ped is more worried about a neck injury. I would probably go just for peace of mind.

Thanks everyone! After 2 hours in the ER, she's clear, just has acute torticollis, which means a tight neck from falling that we'll give her Motrin for over the next few days to make her comfortable Whew!
