I like the quality of my son's Cat & Jack socks and just bought some more in the next size up. They have a monotone stripe pattern so they don't clash too much with whatever he's wearing.

I have also had good luck with Cat + Jack and Old Navy for thinner socks in basic colors.

@Rocker2014: some of the Carter's socks we have are really thick. We live in Chicago and they were good with boots this past winter. They're a little snug with sneakers.

I got DS some from primary.com that I really like. I like to get him socks that are all the same so we don't have to worry about matching them up or losing one from a pair. Most places it seems like they come in variety packs or just white, and he gets his socks way too dirty at the daycare playground.

My thinner socks are all cat + jack and they stay on and hold up for my purposes. If I was ever worried about matching DD's socks to her outfit, those days are long, long gone. Too many outfit (and sock!) changes at daycare to think about it.
