Sharing at home with her sister.
Picking her own clothes takes a long time. She picks at night but changes her mind in the morning.
Holding in poops. She is afraid of the potty and only goes at nap or nighttime.

Ugh, at 15 months L has learned that she can have her own opinions and think for herself. The biggest issue is eating. She was the most PERFECT eater before (she was drinking my beet, carrot and kale smoothies even!), but now she has decided she only wants to eat bread. Nothing else. Don't even try to give me a carrot lady!

Food for sure. She isn't foods she used to love. Pretty much carbs and cheese is all we can get her to eat unless it is a pouch.

Food here as well...we've gotten into a somewhat bad habit of him needing to be read to during dinner time, and me feeding him with a fork a lot of the time instead of him self feeding.

ALso, tantrums because he can't express what he wants/we don't understand what he's saying. Can't wait for a bigger vocabulary!

And currently, he's gotten super whiny and falls apart at the drop of a pin. He's constantly frustrated with little tasks. I miss my happy-go-lucky little man. It's hard being 2.

I think 2 is such a hard age bc they are going through so much brain development...and unable to fully understand or express themselves. We went through a rough patch a few months ago (she was probably around 2 years 3 months).... She would cry if something didn't work out like she thought or if she was frustrated she couldn't do something. Like she would be happily playing and then couldn't get her blocks to fit a certain way she would cry and cry. Or if she realized a stuffed animal was not where it should be...crying. Fortunately she's been easy to calm down but I worried about it getting worse. I feel lucky that she's very verbal and understands a lot so I think we managed to get through it pretty quickly. I would talk to her calmly about why she was upset and talk to her about whatever was upsetting her. For example "why are you crying? Are you looking for cow? You don't need to cry...let's go look for cow... Where are you cow? Maybe he's in the living room." And later we'd talk about how she doesn't have to be so upset and what she can do next time.

I think keep talking to them about what upset them and what they should do. Of course it's hard in the moment when they are throwing a tantrum but afterwards you can talk with them about it. I do think it's a phase though at this age and with the language explosion it gets better. I know those that don't get the terrible 2s get it at 3 so I know I'm not out of it by any means.

@littlek: maybe with the clothes you could try picking them out the day before and setting them somewhere and talking about what it means to pick out clothes the day before. We pick out clothes the night before and set them in her bathroom to change into so the closet doesn't get open again in the morning. And if he gets upset maybe talk to him about it "we picked your blue pants today. Are you sad bc you want to wear your yellow pants? Don't be sad bc we can pick them to wear tomorrow. Ok? It's ok to be sad but we'll have to remember to pick the yellow pants tonight and we can wear them tomorrow." I think it helps to be consistent to limit future battles...it's so not a big deal to them them wear what they want but if they know they can keep changing their minds it can lead to more problems. I read somewhere that they get overwhelmed by the ability to make all these choices. And it helps to show them limits.

Who know, I have no idea what I'm doing but I can say that things got better for us. I have my happy easy going kiddo back

@Smurfette: Yes, yes -- what's up with the carbs (crackers, bread and goldfish) and cheese? We're feeling lucky that LO will eat pretty much any meat we give her, but she won't even eat pasta. What kid doesn't like mac and cheese? She won't touch a strawberry or broccoli, but if it's in a pouch, it's the best thing EVER. WTF?

Food here, too. What happened to my great eater?? Now, unless she is completely distracted, she'll barely eat and will just throw everything on the floor! It's such a production to get her to eat. Sigh. At least she will eat anything I give her when she's distracted, so that's a positive I suppose.

Transitions- getting out of the house and leaving places takes for-ever!

Lots of whining when he can't figure something out (puzzle, clips, shoes etc)

Teeth brushing (though the elmo tooth brushing song on YouTube seems to help)

Naps were bad for a few weeks (taking 1-2 hrs to fall asleep) but it seems better (knock on wood).

He's almost 2.

@hellobeeboston: mine won't do it if we hold him down. He clenches his draw and flops to the floor like a wet noodle. The video helps but of course we have to watch it like 10 times

@MamaG: yes, procrastination at bedtime. Uuuuggghh!

And eating too!

Whining and tantrums. And eating. She's not too picky, which I am grateful for, but it's the constant snacking. I just want to get a full meal in her so we're not having to drag snacks around everywhere we go. And I know I'm probably part of the problem for providing said snacks, but I'll admit I don't know what else to do.

Sadie currently likes to mock me when I tell her no. She says "no!" and makes a little diva duck-face, shakes her head, and points at me. It's hilarious & so hard not to laugh. BUT, it's also super frustrating. How does she already have so much 'tude?!?

DS is 17 months. We're having trouble with tantrums, and a total disregard for safety. Every time we're at the playground, I have to stop DS from pitching headfirst from high places! He'll run to anything dangerous as soon as he sees I'm out of reach, giggling all the way. No idea what to do about it...

This thread is freaking me out!

@sandy: You're freaking amazing at this stuff!! You should have a TV show like Super Nanny!

DS is turning 2 in July, he's fighting us on meals (previously was never a picky eater), throwing tantrums when we say no to something, whining for completely no reason, and of course getting extremely frustrated with us when we have no clue what he's trying to say. One great thing about him, he doesn't behave like this when we're out, just at home.
