My husband and I are going for four nights to San Francisco at the beginning of June. We already have our hotel booked by Union Square, and we are planning to do a night tour of Alcatraz. Any recommendations for things to do while we are there or specific restaurants to try? Also, we are looking for things to do at night, so any cool bars or nighttime entertainment you can suggest?

I love SF. Alfred's Steakhouse is really cool- very old speakeasy vibe. I'd see if any galleries are having shows- 111 Minna is my favorite. I've never really done much of the nightlife there but you could look up concerts or there may be a musical in town?

Fun! Try Bourbon & Branch. A super fun speakeasy in a dicey part of town that you can walk to from Union Square. But its a must. Password "books" has always worked for me. There is also a bar-within-a-bar inside. You need reservations for it but its cool if you are looking for a fun drinking experience. Rickhouse is owned by the same people - not a speakeasy but a fun bar. And for a day activity, I really like the Sutro Baths and the little restaurant that's there. Its fun and pretty to explore and good for a couple hours activity.

@agold: I actually read about that bar in a guidebook, so it was on my list of things to do. I heard the Sutro Baths and area around there is neat to see, so we might do that too. Thanks!
