I've heard more than once that a lot of times at check in ID was not asked for accompanying child. That is really disturbing to me!
Were you asked for your child's ID at the airport?
On the same line; can I just bring a copy of her birth certificate? I'd rather leave the original at home.

We brought a copy of DS' birth certificate when we flew with him at 8 months. They did not ask for it.

Yes, a copy is fine. And yes we were asked for it but honestly I'm pretty sure that it is only to verify that the child is under 2, not for safety.

I don't think they ask for kids' IDs-- I've never been asked (flew with an 8 month old) and my friends with school-aged children haven't been asked, either.

Nope. We've never been asked for our kids' id or birth certificate.
When we travel internationally next month, we're taking both of their passports though.

We were only asked for ID when we flew internationally. One time I think I actually shoved it (copy of birth certificate) in their face and they hardly even looked at it.

I always bring E's birth certificate but they've never asked to see it. We've flown domestically with him for 3 round trips.

We brought his birth certificate with us. The TSA people love babies because they didn't want to see it. They just wanted to coo at LO in his stroller.

I've only traveled domestically with LO and brought a copy of her birth certificate. I wasn't asked for her ID.

Never asked for ID but was asked for name - Honestly I think it was for accountability in case of a crash to make sure they had a "head count"

We have been asked for ID on international flights. Never US domestic, but we also haven't flown within the US since DS turned 2.

once we were asked for it, once we were not. a copy of the birth certificate was fine.
