My son has a diaper rash after my husband fed him too many prunes (don't get me started). I'm letting him air dry after wipe downs and then applying diaper cream at every change. Should I also apply aquafor or another protective shield?
Any other tips on helping diaper rash? He had it as of Saturday night and it hasn't improved.

DS had a really bad one over the weekend. We left his diaper off as much as we could. When he had a diaper on I would use A&D diaper ointment and then over that I would put some aveeno cream. It seems to be helping, today it is almost gone. We also used warm wash cloths instead of wipes and sprayed him with a warm water bottle when he was poopy.

Coconut oil really helps with diaper rash. I use Puppy pee pads and do under her (If I can keep her still) and do as much naked time as possible. We also really like Sudocream for a barrier.

Awwww. Poor Daddy gets blamed. 
Sorry the little man has diaper rash. We just slathered on the cream and gave her lots of naked time before bed each night. That seemed to clear it up well.

Triple paste really helped clear up LOs diaper rash. It's expensive but worth it.

Angel baby bottom balm helps my daughters rash. Even when it's really bad, it's usually cleared up in a day or two. The other california baby diaper cream we had must have irritated it, because it made her scream and didn't heal it at all.

Thanks! We have "Butt Paste"but I just ordered some extra strength desitin which is stronger.
@mediagirl: Wellllll the prunes made him poop like 8 times on Saturday including overnight which he never does.....and of course he slept through the night so sat in poop for hours : /

Of course hurricane is here and so I've been stuck using butt paste today - I feel like it's not better at all - seems worse, actually. I feel so bad, of course tomorrow is my first day back at work and he has a cold and bad diaper rash. : (

@winniebee: If you have baking soda you can try letting him soak in a baking soda bath! That has helped so much in the past when DD has a rash.
I make a diaper rash cream so I'm not any help to you at the moment since you can't leave BUT we use this homemade one since we've dealt with yeast rash in the past that was horrid, I now treat all diaper rashes like a yeast rash b/c it sucked that bad.
Equal parts of Aquaphor, Lotrimin (generic store brand is fine), and Neosporin (optional - for when DD has sores on her bottom) and Maloxx until you get the consistency you want.
The aquaphor acts as a barrier, the lotrimin will keep yeast at bay, neosporin for healing, and the maloxx to help the acidity that lo will feel with the poo on the sore bottom.
I usually only have to use it a couple of changes and she's all cleared up! =)

My son had the worst diaper rash once and I let him air dry over night (of course he peed but I had protection underneath).
I also used tons of baking soda in his bath everytime he poo'ed to avoid wiping his butt area. I also used Triple paste and Lotrimin and a little Neosporin. It got better in 2 days.

With Aliya's really bad diaper rashes, I would always wash her bottom with warm water and soap after poops, and would towel pat her bottom dry. Then I'd apply extra-strength Desitin and her rash would be gone usually within a day.
Wipes always irritated her rash more.

DS just got over the worst diaper rash he's ever had. He had diarrhea and DH didn't change it when I asked him too. I feel your pain! It left a sore like the skin had been peeled off. We used desitin maximum strength at every diaper change and tried to wipe as little as possible. We'd also pat him dry with a towel or wash cloth. ETA: We also gave him a couple of oatmeal baths.
Are you using disposables or cloth diapers? We use disposables but I had some gerber prefolds from making burp cloths. I used one and pinned it like a diaper and then covered it with some swimming trunks. That seemed to help a little bit too. If you aren't using cloth already, you could do something similar!

Poor Tyler!! hope he feels better soon is he still having the runs? If so, the diaper rash won't improve until he's done with the diarrhea. You can maintain it but it can't heal until his poop is nice and firm again. Just make sure to keep it bone dry and slather on the triple paste. Butt paste made WJ's diaper rash MUCH worse (it came highly recommended, so I was so disappointed!!) so I totally recommend triple paste. Expensive but worth it.

Triple paste is the only thing that worked for us- that plus diaper free time and making sure his bum was nice and dry in between diaper changes.
We use cloth diapers, so now we use CJ's Butter- we were using Earth Mama Angel Baby or whatever it's called, and it just irritated his sensitive skin.
I think it's kind of trial and error to find out what works best for your LO! My ped said the best cure for diaper rash is oxygen, so diaper free time is definitely a must-do. We put a towel down under him and set him on our kitchen floor so that we can just mop it up if he pees.
