After reading the thread about your post-pregnancy body, I'm thinking that I might put a stop to buying any new clothes or shoes. I'm afraid nothing will fit after I have a baby.
Did/will you change your clothes buying habit when you start(ed) TTC?

Just buying underwear (my underpants fall off at the moment, and my bras are too small. But I'll need to find a custom place for the bras - I'm hoping my post BF boobs are smaller.)

I know that feeling, and I was doing the same thing. Still am for the most part. Especially on not buying any new pants. I got a couple sweaters for Christmas so I'm planning to not buy anything at all, hoping for a BFP SOON

I did that for the first few months. But after long term ttc, I needed to be able to shop like normal and buy some new things to feel pretty and confident.
If you want to shop, I'd recommend tunic tops, dresses and leggings, pants with a looser fit, stuff that's not tight, but still lets you feel dressed and fashionable. That kind of clothing has been invaluable in my first trimester. Without it, I'm perpetually in sweats

I stopped buying expensive clothes that were form-fitting when I went off birth control. I didn't want to spend $90 on a pair of amazing work pants and then not fit into them when I got pregnant/after pregnancy. I did buy some shirts and cardigans, though since I figured I could wear those through pregnancy. At 17 weeks, I'm still in those items and will be for some time.

We are in our first official TWW and I've been putting off shopping since about October. I'm totally jinxing myself.

I haven't changed my habits much since starting to TTC. I think it just adds too much pressure to the situation. If it takes us a while, I don't want to feel like I gave things up unneccesarily. And hey, having great clothes is just additional motivation to get back into shape post baby.

I bought clothes that were a little looser on purpose, since I figured sooner or later I would need a little extra room.

When I was ttc I bought clothes with the thought that I hopefully would be preggo soon so loose in the belly. But I didn't realize just how big my boobs would get and nothing ended up fitting.

Ditto to what MerryC said. At one point I even bought a tankini bathing suit thinking I'd be hugely pregnant by the summer. Well, turns out it took longer to TTC than we'd hoped (8 months) and I wasn't even pregnant during the summer! So eventually I started shopping normally again and then got pregnant.

I still buy clothes. I never considered not buying them.

I'm still buying clothes, but I do think twice about pants. I try to just shop for my body now and I'll worry about in the future when it changes.

I went up a pant size while we were TTC, so I really needed new clothes. I hated the idea of spending a fortune on new jeans and then (hopefully) getting pregnant, so I hit up local thrift stores. I didn't feel bad about paying $5 for a new pair of pants to wear a few months (I got pregnant 4 months after I broke down and bought them).

I stopped buying clothes when I found out I was pregnant because I wasn't sure what size I'd be after maternity clothes. I'm glad I stopped because I'm definitely much larger than I had hoped I'd be. Ugh.

I never stopped when I was ttc. I figured if I end up not being able to wear them after, I have 5 younger sisters that would love to get my new hand-me-downs.

I never considered quitting shopping. But I also shop for a variety of reasons: it helps me de-stress and it's something I enjoy doing in and of itself. So I don't plan on stopping.

We are just beginning TTC and I have bought a couple things, but I wear a lot of flowy tops with leggings, so I think I shoudl be okay then. I have to wear skirts/dresses to work so I have been holding off on these purchases until I do get pregnant.

I bought new work pants less than a month before my BFP. They were my comfy work pants. Since we were trying for awhile and I busted a pair of pants, I bought them thinking that I would have time to wear them. Now, they're uncomfortable because of the bloat. I don't know if I'm going to pick up a Belly Band or not yet.

I buy clothes usually at the start of each season. DH bought me a peacoat, two pairs of booties and some work clothes for Christmas.
I'm going to try to ride out the rest of this year with the closet I have... hoping for a BFP soon!

@FutureMrsMcK: My jeans currently fit me fine. By the end of the night, I have to roll them down a bit since the bloat can be bad, but I can still wear them. It's the work pants where I'm feeling the bloat the worst.

I am more aware of my clothing purchases now that I am TTC. Actually almost all of my purchases, I wonder if it is baby friendly. As for clothes, I needed slightly larger jeans, so I bought a couple. I don't think I could go the next 4-5 months with the tight jeans I had. LOL As for shirts, I do buy them a little looser.

I am of the mindset that you've got to dress the body you have, not the one you had in high school or hope to have after pregnancy. If something needed replacing, I bought it, but otherwise, I didn't shop as often for the 6 months before beginning to TTC and while actively TTC.

@MerryC: Ditto. I didn't buy clothes for 5 months (pre ttc and then ttc) and finally realized I was depressed wearing my fat clothes. so I bought clothes... and then got pregnant! Wonder if the stress relief helped.
It was totally worth it even if I can never wear those clothes again.

@MerryC: Agreed. No I haven't stopped buying clothes for the last year and a half. I thought about it at first, but then you just have to live your life...

Maybe you shouldn't buy a whole new wardrobe but I think you should just live your life as normally as possible while TTC. I see a lot of people buying larger pant sizes but don't forget about your shirts either. Shirts also fit weird after pregnancy. There was a whole thread on that so it didn't just happen to me!

Wanted to add: We went to a mall in a different city today, and I found myself thinking "That's so cute! But I shouldn't look at it, because I don't need it, and I'd rather spend the money on a baby." Stupid TTC brain.

I buy based on my size - I never try things on. After the wedding was over, I lost 15 lbs (thanks stress, for the fantastic wedding gift of 15 lbs). however, I still told everyone the same size for christmas. they're a little big, but there's room to grow.
