I'm just curious to know if anyone here struggled with timing as far as TTC goes, because of work. I work in a large metropolitan city, at a very high profile company, in a field that is very demanding - lots of international travel, long hours, competition, always having to be "on", and insane office politics. I started this job about a year ago when kids weren't really on my radar. Most of the women here who have kids are in their late 30s. I am 29 and we are currently TTC.

I struggled with this decision for a while because being pregnant doesn't really help your career when you're in my position. My team is comprised of all women from their mid twenties to late thirties. Half of us are married, some are single, some are divorced. Out of our entire team, not a single person is thinking about starting a family - even the ones who have been married for some time. If I do get pregnant anytime in the foreseeable future and I eventually tell my team, I feel that they would suddenly look down on me in a sense - as if that would indicate that I wasn't as serious about my job, and I think it would definitely hurt my chances of any promotion.

If you've experienced similar fears, how did it play out in the end? Was it worse than you expected, better than you expected? How was it when you went back to work? Did you decide to change careers? For me, this job is definitely not the "be all and end all" and I could easily give it up if I had to. It's just unfortunate that the culture here is so...uptight about these kinds of things.
