Since I found out last week that I am pregnant with twins, a lot of my initial research on furniture, gear, birth, etc. has kind of gone out the window! Does anyone know any good resources, books, websites, etc. on preparing for multiples?

I have a friend who belongs to a mom's with multiples group. Maybe you can see if there is something like that in your area.

How exciting to find out you are having twins!! I would suggest finding some moms of multiples groups. They were a big help to my friend who had twins.

*hugs* so your embryo transfer worked!!!! i'm SO excited for you! i guess you ended up putting 2!
i would just google "twin pregnancy" - tons of websites out there. if you go to barnes and noble, they also have pregnancy week by week books just for twins. i like to go to the whattoexpect.com website and look at the twin sections.

Congrats! I'm expecting twins as well so this is all new to me too. Here are some websites for moms of multiplies:
http://www.twinstuff.com/forum/index.php?act=idx
http://www.mothering.com/community/f/158/parenting-multiples
Also look for local Moms of Multiples groups in your area.
I also read "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads" by Barbara Luke. It's a bit alarmist, but I think it's important to be aware of the risks of preterm labor etc. Frankly, my OB disagrees with the weight gain advice and other recommendations in the book, but consult with your doc about what's best for your pregnancy.
Someone also gave me a copy of Mothering Multiples - I have yet to read it, though.
Good luck!

@birdieputt: Thanks for the list - I will check all of those out! I've done some googling, but I always end up clicking on bad urls that make my computer wig out, so I appreciate the links Congrats on your twins! How far along are you?
And thanks all! We are thrilled, but slightly terrified too, lol

@birdieputt: Oh that's great! Yes, we're trying to just enjoy the holidays without worrying about logistics much yet too! I really love that there are a good number of us IVFers (with twins!) on these boards.

@tequiero21: My RE gave me a due date of July 25 with my original bloodwork, but avg gestation for twins would be July 3. So we're just hoping they bake long enough to have a July birthday I have my first appt with my OB this week, so we'll see what they say.

@MerryC: same here. due 4/9, but they say 3 weeks early for twins, so i tell people mid-march. i'm really hoping they hold off til then! i really, really hope there are no complications and no need for long extended stays at the NICU - for both of us!

I just had identical twin boys in July! I found out when I was 8.5 weeks and it happened naturally so I never thought there was a possibility before finding out!! I was very excited and terrified because it was my first pregnancy. I tried to do a lot of research on the Internet but I don't know that I really found a "great" website. I probably read the most on webmd and the hospital I delivered at offered a multiples class that I took around 24 weeks (wish I had taken it sooner!) the class was amazing and taught me things about twin pregnancy that is above and beyond a single pregnancy. One of the most important things I found out is that water and protein are VERY IMPORTANT in multiples pregnancies. I drank close to 120-160 ounces of water a day and tried to eat a lot of protien every chance I got! Being high risk because of two, I had ultrasounds done every two weeks to check fluid levels, blood flow, and to make sure they were "sharing". The nurses always asked me what my secret was because of how well the boys were growing and having such great checkups. PROTEIN & WATER! My 40 week due date was 8/12/11 but I was scheduled to have a c-section at 36 weeks, July 15th. My boys shared a placenta but had their own sac which is how we know the were identical and because of the shared placenta they opted for Caesarian. My pregnancy was pretty great. I had morning sickness the entire time but took zofran once a day in the morning and that made a world of difference! Towards the end I had some swelling and side cramping, but I never had back pains or any other problems. My blood pressure went 1 week before my scheduled delivery, so they decided to send me to the hospital July 7, and I delivered at 2:34 that day! It was a great experience and the best part was feeling them both moving! Their personalities in the womb are the same as they are out and it's so neat to see!! If you have any questions feel free to ask! Sorry about the book ....

Oh and my boys were in the NICU because they were born before 36 weeks but only for 4 days! We got out the day before. They never had breathing or feeding tubes but they had to be able to suck, swallow, breathe, and control their body temp on their own and they did! I prepared myself for the possibility of them going to the NICU so it really wasn't bad when they did and I knew they were in great hands!

DTM: congrats and thanks for the tip on the water + protein! i have heard that it's important to drink at least 128oz per day during a twin pregnancy... but i will remember the protein too!
honeydew / 7968 posts
what?!?! 128 oz? i'm definitely not drinking enough water. ugh. it's hard enough getting me to drink 64oz. ugh.

Drinking that much water was hard for me too at first but I bought the biggest water bottle I could find whichade it easier! My class taught us that it helps prevent per-term labor, so knowing that helped as well!

@Double Trouble Mama: Thanks, and congrats on your boys! It's so good to hear about twin pregnancies that went pretty smoothly That's a good reminder on the water and protein - thanks!!
