@dominobee: Congrats!!!

My DH and I were trying for a little over 1 1/2 years before I became pregnant with our twins! The twins were conceived via IVF - single embryo transfer - and are fraternal B/G twins. Figure that one out! haha. Our little mystery/miracle :)!

I gave birth at 36w4d - which was awesome. I enjoyed being pregnant and it was for the most part uneventful. I was diagnosed with a short cervix at my NT scan so I was put on progesterone supplements nightly until 36 weeks. I gained 70 lbs total, 35 during the last 3 weeks. A week before I delivered I was diagnosed with mild pre-e and was ultimately sent to the hospital after an ultrasound where my BP was super high. The babies were great - needed no time in the NICU.

I would be happy to be a reference if you have any questions on your journey. Echoing @Mrs. Blue: Twins are a lot of work - but a remarkable journey. They amaze me daily with the joy they bring each other. It is absolutely awesome to see them interact. Best wishes!!

My twins are almost 8. How in the world did that happen!!! Congrats to all the twin pregnancies!!

@MrsSCB: @meadow: I was thinking the same thing! I know you were in our June 2016 babies group and I was wondering if they ever came up with a reason as to how you got one of each!? Sorry to thread jack

@MrsSCB: @Mrs. Champagne: the doctors never figured that one out. Their theory is that yes, I ovulated around the time of retrieval and one is natural. However, I know my husband and I were super careful and did nothing for 1 month pre-retrieval and until after beta.....haha. so DS is our little miracle baby and we don't know where he came from! Haha. Recently I read about mosaic twins and have been trying to research that angle......but who knows!

@MrsTal: congrats!!! Do you know what gender(s) you're having?

@meadow: not yet! Our anatomy scan is July 10 and then we are doing a small gender reveal party with our family on the 16th. Can't wait to find out!

@dominobee: I was not on strict bedrest but starting at about 30 weeks I was starting to have blood and pressure issues. Every time I stood up it went up so I spent about 2 months laying down on the floor with son. I deliver at 37 weeks.

@dominobee: I was never officially put on bed rest. I delivered at 37 weeks. I would have only been allowed to go one more week. My twins were di-di and I didn't have any true complications during my pregnancy. However, I'll echo others that it was very uncomfortable and painful toward the end. I believe I went as long as I did because I refused to push myself. I told myself that my #1 job was growing them, even if I felt like a lazy beached whale on the couch each day! By 31-32 weeks, I started working half-days in the office and then half-days at home to stay more comfortable. By 34 weeks, I was working full-time from home. I worked from home until the day I went into labor. 34 weeks is also about the time I stopped driving.

@dominobee: Sorry just saw this now. I was actually on bedrest and had an early labor scare. I did have a history of a shortening cervix since it happened with my second as well. (The twins were no. 3 and 4). So I decreased my hours from week 14 onward to 20h. How I was dividing those hours up was up to me - that was important as I had days were I needed to work a full 8h-10h day. By week 30 I was fully out of the workforce. And at 32 weeks I had an allergic reaction that resulted in bouts of vomiting and diarrhea and that sent me into preterm labor. Luckily they were able to stop it and the babies cooked until 36+2 when my water with twin A broke. (I still have to write my birth story up, hope to get around to that soon).

All that working less and bedrest were fine for me as I do not live in the USA so I was protected under maternity laws so my job was secure, I still got my regular paycheck etc.

I think you're making the right call to reduce your time spent on the road and getting a more office type job. Twin pregnancies are double the work for your body and you'll get really uncomfortable towards the end. But it is all worth it and while it is also double the work once the babies are here it is also double the joy and there's two babies giving you gummy smiles and giggling at your funny faces

Another recent twin mom here! I haven't posted at all (that I can remember) since the twins got here because I've been a little busy. But I wanted to say congratulations! Having twins is a blast and about a million times more fun than I thought it was going to be!! When I found out I was having twins around this time last year, I was so anxious and worried about complications and managing 4 kids (I also have a 3 and 5 year old). But everything turned out great, even though I had relatively high risk mono-di twins, and upped the risk factor when I got exposed to parvovirus in the 2nd tri. But everything ended up being perfect. I made it to 37 weeks 1 day, went into labor without having to be induced, and had a vaginal birth. One twin went to the NICU for just a couple of days for blood sugar issues, and that's it. It was about as smooth sailing as can be, which I am incredibly thankful for. I just wanted to share because when I was pregnant, all I read were terrifying twin pregnancy stories. Keep in mind that the uneventful twin pregnancy/birth stories usually don't get written because there isn't much to say. But they exist! Also, my doctor sent me to a preterm prevention nurse who put me on all sorts of vitamins and checked for potential signs of premature labor every week. She was a great resource and I think a big reason why we made it to 37 weeks.

I didn't end up needing any kind of bed rest, and I worked right up until the day before my water broke. I work from home though, so working wasn't super strenuous for me.

Enjoy it! Having my twins is one of the best things to ever happen to me!!

@Pumuckl: I'm so glad to hear that!! Everyone thought I was crazy for not just scheduling a C-section, but I wanted to give it a shot! I got lucky that the babies were in the right position and my doctor was willing to go for it.

@meadow: Wow, that's pretty crazy positioning right there! I feel like twins move around so much. Mine were always in different places until the very end. My great-great grandmother had mono-di twins in the 1920s, at home. I now realize how insane that is. What if they'd been positioned like yours??? I guess she would have had a midwife sitting on her stomach trying to turn them!

I always say that it depends on the babies. I'd rather take care of two easy babies than one hard one!! My twins have been the easiest babies I've had. Thank goodness.

@LML: @Pumuckl: Yes - so thankful for modern medicine that I didn't have anyone sitting on my enormous belly! hahaha

@dominobee: that seems weird that they wouldn't do an u/s with a twin pregnancy. My doc is usually pretty restrictive with u/s but I got one every time with the twins. First to make sure both were growing and later for positioning and weight difference (they shouldn't be more than a lbs apart).

@dominobee: honestly this is what I'd assume and if you haven't established care yet I think an u/s is even more likely

Twin mom here. My IVF twins (B/G) are 22 months now. I had quite a complications filled pregnancy (HG, SCH, PPROM) and the twins were induced at 34 weeks after I was on 6 weeks of hospital bed rest. The twins are doing well. They had some therapy from 6-18 months because of a common twin related issues where one favors one side and the other favors the other. So therapy helped them learn to use both sides (muscle) of the body. They are now 22 months and we have been approved for some therapy for communication. Everything else seems to be on track. Both are healthy, well a little bout of diarrhea at the moment. No signs of asthma, which is a relief since my DH has severe asthma. DD did have RSV at 4 months which required a 5 day hospital stay at CHOP. She got RSV again this past year and required a 1 day hospital stay. DS tested positive for RSV but did not require a hospital stay at all. His only minor health issue is eczema that flares up sometimes but the Aveeno eczema cream helps with that when it happens. We did find a deer tick on him a few months ago that luckily tested negative for Lyme's disease (yeah... welcome to the east coast... specifically CT!). We lived in Seattle previously so while we love being closer to family now, the big move and CT has had it's own issues. (Also, DH and I have been fighting a lot... so that's added stress.) I'm the primary provider for our family and DH has quite a bit of medical issues so trying to pretty much be a single mom when DH is having medical issues is pretty tough on me. Yeah, aside from the stress of working full time. Oh, and having issue with our au pair currently. I need to win the lottery so I can stay at home.

Oh, back to the twins, they do have a nebulizer for the twins since they sometimes wheeze when they get sick with a cold. We have only had to use it about 3 times so far and at the moment no wheezing otherwise. I'm hoping that's a good sign that they don't have asthma yet.

What does your partner think? This is our first pregnancy, and we were ultimately hoping to have two kids. We're both really excited that we're pregnant with twins, since that means we don't have to go through that lovely IVF process again My husband jokes that he wants to lock me in a padded room for the next 9 months, and I totally think he would if he could...
Thoughts/feelings/fears? Really nervous about miscarriage/disappearing twin syndrome, and then after that, super afraid of delivering too early. Counting down days until first trimester is over.
