Instead of buying things for baby sister, I find myself buying more for DD1 thinking that I'll for sure get more use out of it down the road.
I feel guilty that I'm 22 weeks and have literally purchased nothing for DD2.
Mom's of two of the same - when did you get excited to shop for #2? Did you buy a lot of new stuff for #2? Rely on hand me downs from #1?

I've been doing the same thing. We bought a few things for ds2 since the seasons were opposite. People still ended up buying us a lot of new things. I am looking forward to getting them matching thanksgiving and christmas outfits though!

I have bought next to nothing for DD2 
I feel bad but I just can't justify buying even more stuff than what was sufficient for DD1. I know I will make it up when she is older and she can pick out some of her own stuff.

@jedeve: That's a good point. We have a summer baby and winter baby so lots of the clothes didn't jive well with the seasons so I did have to buy a couple extra stuff for DD2.

That's what I've been doing too - poor little sis! I'm sure it will be a little different as they get older though, because they start to wear their clothes out more. And, that will be when they start to care!

@Lindsay05: good point. I was a second daughter. Do I care I didn't have my own baby clothes? No! But would my own room dress have been nice? Yes!
I do want to have a few special things for him. He has his own sweater and blanket - I want to make those for each kid we have. And he will get his own teddy bear for his first christmas. I think that will be enough sentimental stuff for him to have.
I am sure I will buy plenty of rompers for him next summer because I loooove little boys in rompers! Chubby baby knees make my heart pitter pat.

I should add that DD2 is catching up to DD1 in sizes pretty quickly so who knows, maybe DD1 will get the handmedowns soon!

Don't feel too bad! I think you realize how quickly they grow out of things and I think your strategy makes sense!

I got her a new coming home outfit and she does need a few items that are season specific that big sister's that doesn't work. Besides that I can reuse most of big sister's clothes.

Well I hope I'm in this situation... but I got rid of a handful of clothes from DD1 so that if we have another girl I have room to buy her a few new things that are just for her. I bought a lot of DD1s toys with the intent of getting multiple use (gender neutral), but it will make future holidays hard because I don't want any more baby/toddler toys!

We bought almost nothing new until M really changed shape. She's broader and taller than sister, so we had to but a lot of new things later on. I was glad I didn't buy much in the beginning because it's all really the same for early on.

I have purchased next to nothing for DS and as you know is different gender then #1!
Hand me downs have been huge this time around, and anything I have purchased has pretty much been second hand!
Don't feel bad, I think it's also helped knowing really how short of a time they wear the stuff, so short term!
PS, another girl!? Eeeee!

We've gotten some new stuff for baby girl #2, but not a ton. She has gotten some new outfits and a couple special things just for her, but for the most part she will be using her big sisters stuff

I haven't bought much yet. They are different seasons, but I think we'll be okay for at least a month or two. I want to wait to see how she grows/her shape before I buy a ton for her. LO1 was long and skinny, but we'll need some fdifferent stuff if LO2 takes after me as a baby.

I'm having another girl and pretty much in the same season (November and December). I got a lot of hand me downs for LO that I used early on but they were 3-4 years old when I got them and they've been in storage another 3 years so some things are just super worn. So I bought a lot of new sleepers for baby 2 bc I know I won't be able to do lots of laundry like I did the first time. I'm super practical though and don't buy a lot of infant clothes - maybe when they get to be older than 6 months I'll spend a bit on some new clothes. I think a lot of hand me downs are going to work for awhile except for shoes. My LO is pretty hard on her shoes so I think little sister will mostly get her own shoes but will probably live in hand me down for most everything else - I hope she doesn't mind! I do find myself feeling more free to spend $$ on LO's clothes now bc I know we'll get to reuse them

I have bought a pack of bandana bibs from H&M. That is all. On the same trip, I bought an entire fall wardrobe for LO1.
We don't know the sex of #2, though. If I knew it was a girl, I'd probably buy a few new things. But if we knew it was a boy? Nope. I really don't think they will care! And all of the infant stuff we have is still in such great shape because they grow so fast. Don't sweat it, yo!

I started buying more for dd1! I hardly bought anything for dd2 because I felt assured that she'd wear hand me downs.

I have bought nearly nothing for DD2 and just have used hand me downs from DD1. Around a year old, I'll probably buy her some things since that's when DD1 started getting super hard on her clothes, and staying in sizes longer.

I'm in the same boat! DD2 was born in June and mainly in hand me downs and the only new things I've actually bought her say "little sister" on it... Now I kinda feel bad

Same as @Espion: said, even though we're having a girl this time she will still mainly wear her brother's cloths. I haven't gotten anything for her so far. We will have to get things like a snow suit for her though since DS was born in early spring.

I felt the same guilt in doing the same but I guess it's common from all these responses - I feel better now haha. I bought one new crib sheet and bibs and a set of A&A blankets (DD1 still uses hers for naps) but that's about it. I, too, find myself buying more for DD1 knowing that DD2 will get use out if it too. Poor second child lol.

Not a ton new for this baby boy. T was May and this one is December but I'm trying to get by mostly on what we have. My mom probably bought the new baby 5 outfits so far (one pieces and sleepers) and I bought a few as well. Will get a Christmas outfit but otherwise will just wait and see. I think I will need to buy some winter stuff in the 3-6 range but won't do it til later.
But I hear you on getting more for the older. I don't feel as guilty getting fall clothes in 2T knowing that they will get used again at some point
