When you mention teething troubles on FB, and an acquaintance sends you a long FB message with links about how sleep training is the devil, etc., even though you've never discussed your opinion of sleep training vs. not sleep training.
I just said thank you, but really, I wanted to send this!

My husband's childless single friend told me that she knows what it's like to be a parent because she has a dog.
Then, we went out for dinner at my son's bedtime. He was really fussy throughout dinner, and my husband had to take him outside for part of the meal. The friend told me that when she had dinner with mutual friends and their infant daughter, the daughter was fine in the restaurant. So she suggested that I contact them to find out what they did to get her to behave. When my response was vague (because I didn't want to tell her what a stupid suggestion that was), she asked if I am uncomfortable asking people for advice like that.

oh lord. I despise unsolicited advise. Huge pet peeve of mine.
When I announced on facebook that I was pregnant, my husband's college roommate, whom I've never met, replied with a LENGTHY diatribe about how important it is to have a natural labor and delivery and how to go about it. I was SO peeved. Luckily my friend saw the comment and posted immediately after that she suggested lots and lots of drugs.

What's worse than unsolicited advice is unsolicited diagnosis. I don't need people to tell me what they think caused my miscarriage. Sh*t happens.

Because they know EXACTLY what you would like your vagina to feel like during birth, right?!
I had an unmedicated birth, but when people get all CRAZY about telling others "no drugs!", I figure they must have just watched The Business of Being Born, and I forgive them for being insensitive jerks!
