Our plan for wrapping is to unwrap everything from its original packaging, then put in a bag or in the stocking, that way LO will hopefully be compelled to play with the items when he gets them. I am also planning to put away his other toys so that he only sees his new ones. We didn't get him a lot so I am hoping this won't take a long time!

I'm taking the packaging off everything for the stocking so it is ready to play with. DS is only 9 months, but I think it will make it easier for Christmas morning.

Yes! We learned this the hard way last year with a 12 month-old. He kinda unwrapped the gifts, then had zero patience for us removing the packaging. Since then, we have learned to set it up as much as possible ahead of time (batteries too!) so he can start playing right away. We also spread the gifts out throughout the day since he started to get overwhelmed- it was still super exhausting for us all!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: we are doing the exact same thing! All the toys are going away tonight, all of her new stuff was unboxed and wrapped as-is. Fun!

I've done this for my 18-month old as well. For her birthday we hid all her old toys so she'd zero in on the new ones, and it worked really well.

I do this all the time, saves a lot of time and annoyance, especially when there are batteries involved.

Another suggestion would be to wrap the gifts in tissue paper - its much easier for little hands to open vs gift wrap

ah shoot. I meant to do this and totally forgot. oh well..not unwrapping to unwrap and rewrap now, lol!
