Great update! And I third (or fourth?) the full on dairy elimination. We noticed a huge difference within a week of cutting ALL dairy (whey and casein included). I accidentally ate a SMALL amount of hummus (of all things!) that had dairy and it was back to spit up and green poop for 3 days.

@Mae: I don't know if there's a new nutragimen on the market I don't know about, but the traditional one is not made from soy. It's hydrolyzed dairy (the proteins are taken out) and mostly corn syrup solids. It has soy oil in it though, which is why I had to get Neocate. I still have a sample of regular Nutragimen at home and just looked at the ingredients and only oils (combinations of palm, sunflower, coconut, and soy) are present. No other soy.
Is there a new soy Nutragimen? Did the doctor say why she was prescribing it?

@fussygal: I just ate some butter yesterday (hidden in a gluten free cookie that I misread and thought said dairy free as well) and my LO was up 6 times last night. And she's 13 months. =(

@fussygal: eh, it's my own fault. You'd think I'd have learned to read labels by now. But I've been playing it kind of fast-and-loose with the food lately since I've almost got her totally transitioned to hemp milk. But wouldn't you know it, for some crazy reason dh put 3 oz of BM in her bottle before bed...and sure enough. ugh.

@Anagram: nope you're right! i just went and got the can. I could've sworn yesterday when I opened it I read it was soy-- but I was also sleep deprived and hadn't eaten all day yet and was trying to just get some food in the baby so I could sit down and have a glass of water lol. So I guess I can try the balls to the wall no dairy or soy approach--- I just don't know what i'm going to eat! especially because I just went grocery shopping this morning with just milk avoidance in mind. All the carby stuff I got (bread, buns, tortillas) says dairy free but not soy free. My issue is that I am not a big meat or vegetable person. I will eat chicken, but mostly only cut up into little bits in tacos or on pizza or something. I'm all about the carbs and cheese Can I just eat oatmeal for a two weeks? lol At least I like that and know its safe... sigh.

@Mae: all the chex cereals are dairy/soy free. As is bare naked granola...there are other cereals as well but I can't recall off the top of my head. So get some almond milk and cereal and you have breakfast solved.
Carbs: Most fresh-baked loaves of French bread at the grocery store are MSPI friendly (except Walmart, I found. It has soy flour there).
Most gluten-free brands are also dairy free. You can buy some gluten free muffins for snacks.
Pasta is fine...and a lot of jarred sauces have soy oil but there always a couple of brands that don't (usually natural or organic brands).
Eggs are always good. I can give you a ton of more suggestions. The foods you bought today...just throw them in the freezer and they will be there in two weeks. =) Good luck!

@LovelyPlum: I don't think my kids are MSPI! I went off dairy when my ped casually suggested it but I reintroduced recently with no ill effects. I actually like the way I feel when I'm dairy free so I'm sort of sticking with it but not religiously!

@twodoghouse: @LovelyPlum: I feel so much better, too. Plus, added bonus - my skin has cleared up!
@Mae: we've eliminated soy in addition to dairy and I thought it would be super limiting but it really isn't! I've found delicious replacements for basically everything I used to eat (except cheese, Daiya ain't foolin' me!). It's all about focusing on what you CAN have vs. can't

@fussygal: @twodoghouse: lol, fair :). I just miss yogurt. I had to start taking probiotocs because this gassiness is for the birds! My main worries are actually Thanksgiving and Christmas cookies. Gonna have to get creative!

I bet eliminating dairy will make a huge difference. J had an unusual presentation of dairy allergy, so it took awhile to diagnose. But he was a totally different baby once he was dairy free. So glad you found a pediatrician who listens, and hope things turn around quickly for your LO!

@LovelyPlum: earth balance or coconut oil are great alternatives to butter.
For icing use water instead of milk.

Just to throw in another opinion about soy: everything I've been told from our feeding saga (currently ongoing) is that milk protein is the number one cause of allergy issues in babies and you definitely have to eliminate everything. Sensitivity to soy, I'm told from a few sources (pediatrician, LC) occurs in about 40% of cases. So on one hand, it's a high number. On the other hand, your plan of dairy first and then see sounds right in line with what I've been told to do.

So glad you found someone who is taking your concerns seriously and also happy that you can see specialists locally! That's great news. I hope things continue to get better and better!
