I can't comment on cost because I don't know, but my folks have one and I love it! You don't have to bend down into freezing depths to get what you need. Or dig crap out of the bottom when you can't find what you put in there months ago. They don't seem to take up as much space, or take up space more efficiently... Haha

I wish we had one.

Cost, not sure. It's a Frigidaire. We actually have two-- one in the house, and one in the garage. It is wonderful. If you eat meat, it can be very cost-effective to buy say, half a cow from a reputable rancher. We get whole pigs processed, and go in with friends on beef usually. It lasts a long time. I don't think I could do without mine!

Can't tell you much about ours since we bought it like 8 years ago, but I'm sure it's from Lowes and I prefer it to the chest freezer, which we also have. It's used almost solely for meat since we often buy half cows and pigs, as well as the meat from my husband's hunting. It seems to keep everything well.

We have an old one so I don't know the price, it's a maytag and we love it! Love the extra storage and it's out of the way in the corner of our garage!
