Today my husband met with his immigration lawyer. The lawyer said it's been his busiest week EVER. Every permanent resident who currently qualifies to apply for citizenship is rushing to do it now due to all the scary uncertainty Trump is causing.
The processing time for a naturalization application was already 9-12 months for our service center. The time for simply renewing a permanent resident card was 6 months. But now that there are so many applications, the backlog is going to REALLY be totally outrageous. And you know they won't hire more people to review applications, because of the federal workforce hiring freeze! It's craziness.
My husband is not from a country likely to be targeted by Trump, but he wants to get his citizenship ASAP because you just never know what Trump might do.
Is anyone else affected by this?
