I haven't had a chance to plant yet, but last year I had tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, and Chinese long beans. I need to get started since the season starts early and ends early here.

It's our first summer at our new house so we won't be going crazy this year. The main goal is to cultivate the soil (we've been composting all winter) this year but will probably be planting tomatoes, peppers, zucchinis, some Asian veggies, beans, etc. Also plan to do garlic in the fall!

@T-Mom: what kind of eggplant? I need to find seeds for Japanese eggplants.

We don't have the yard for one, but my dad is planting special crops just for DS's diet :). He is putting in some okra, red beets, and asparagus (from last year) for him, as well as a bunch of other crops that everyone else can enjoy.

@regberadaisy: I'm sorry, I don't remember. They were long and skinny. I have no idea what kind that is?

DH is in charge of the vegetable garden but I think we are going to have: corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans, butternut & spaghetti squash, zucchini, basil, lettuce, kohlrabi, carrots. He already has onions and snow peas in the ground.

Right now, I'm working on cleaning out the area where my garden will be next year. It's full of weeds, some random flowers, and small trees. I'd like to plant some onions and beans this year, since soup will be a main staple of our diet next winter with a freshly born baby.

@T-Mom: yes! those are Japanese eggplants! Where did you get the seeds??

@regberadaisy: oh, ok! Well, my mom actually got the seeds for me. I'm guessing she got them at the Chinese market... that's where she gets all her Asian varieties. Do you have a good Asian market near you?

@MrsTiz: How do you know when it's time to pull up the potatoes? I actually had potatoes last year too, but I had no idea when to dig them out, and when I finally did I think they were maybe too old?

@MrsTiz: thanks! I should have just googled it too.. actually I think they were sweet potatoes now that think about it. I was so lazy about my garedning last year, this year I am definitely going to try harder and stay on top of it!

We're planting Brandywine tomatoes, giant pumpkins, Habanero and Hungarian hot wax chillis, corn, carrots and shallots all from seed. We also have rhubarb and chives that grows back each year.
