Not sure if you have seen this verizon commercial on what we say to discourage young girls.
Definitely made me think even though my LO is only 10 months old.

Im pretty cognizant of this. C is a very pretty little girl, and DH always tells her she is. I make a point to tell her how smart she is.

That's such a good point. Especially the dress part. I do have be more mindful of this kind of thing for the future.

So important! When people tell LO she's pretty I try to say to her "and smart, and funny, and strong".

@JessKas: I do too! I always add "oh and she's calm, independent, and smart too!"

I'm not against saying "pretty" but we are always saying "so smart!" when she does something clever! (eta, making it so there are a lot more smart comments than pretty.)
