we live in a one bedroom apartment and LO's crib is in our room. I wasnt going to buy a video monitor but we received it as a gift and I use it so much I dont know how I would have survived without it. Regardless of how big/small your home is a video monitor makes it easy for you to be in a different room from your LO and still check on them on the screen and talk to them using the mic

Ours is 1200 sq ft, but having the monitor allows us to watch tv at a normal volume or do dishes without straining to hear her.

I figured that I wouldn't need a monitor since my house isn't too big, and my LO's room is across from ours. While I was right about not needing an audio monitor, I regret not purchasing a video monitor. Unless you can see through walls, nothing can replace the value of seeing your LO on a monitor screen to check up on him/her.

Our house is about 2,000 sq feet, and LO sleeps upstairs so we needed a monitor. Even if I had a smaller place, though, I think I'd like to have a video monitor... it's nice to be able to check to make sure the baby is OK without going into the room and risking waking them up. LO just started rolling over and I'm always worried that she'll get have her face flat in the mattress or something.

Eh, if you need that peace of mind don't worry what people will say - it's about you and your baby, not other people's opinions.

We weren't going to get one originally, but within the first month I was running into his room every ten minutes just to check on him. So we sprung for one and I'm so happy we did. I love being able to see him sleeping at any moment.

Our house is 1500 sq ft, it's a two-level town house. His bedroom is right next to ours, but from downstairs in the kitchen/LR I can't hear him if he cries. And many times he doesn't even wake up crying, he waits in his bed quietly. So if I wasn't able to see him awake, he would then start crying from being left alone too long- I like to avoid that!

I think you should get one no matter what just to save yourself from going into the nursery unnecessarily and then waking the baby up/wasting your time.

Our place is small, but two floors (2 bedrooms). I couldn't live without our video monitor... partially b/c I'm a huge worrier. I love that I can always see baby, even when she's asleep upstairs, and I'm downstairs cooking. I am so neurotic in fact, that the first few weeks of DD's life I slept with the video monitor in bed with me... even though DD was in her pack n play just inches from my head. I could look at the video monitor and see that she was still breathing, without having to sit up or turn a light on. So yes, a video monitor is a necessity for me!!

ours is 2 floors, 1600 sq feet. i can't hear olive unless she's crying really loud, so a monitor is necessary.

it's not about hearing them so much as seeing what they're doing that's important to me. for instance twice last week olive wasn't falling asleep for her nap -- it was because she pooped! but i wouldn't have known that if i wasn't watching her on the video monitor.
