After reading a few threads on video monitors, I've narrowed my selection down to Motorola and Foscam. However, I'm not entirely sure which Foscam camera to consider. Is my understanding correct that Foscam cameras are IP cameras (accessible even when you're not home, but can be prone to hacking?) whereas the Motorola MBP36 is great quality, but it's wifi based around your home only?
Which do you think is better? Which do you prefer (if you've tried both?)

love our foscam. it's a PITA to set up, but once we did it, it's all set! love that i can check on her if i'm out of town too.

DH really wanted to get a camera that you can use wifi on so after kids it can maybe double as a security camera or something. But everything we looked at, it seems like the apps that go along with it just don't work that great, etc.
I thought I wanted the Motorola but after comparison we went with Ovia 4.3" PTZ. Baby isn't here yet so I can't really review it!

I have both, but I prefer the Motorola because I can easily keep in on all night. I don't really have a need to check on her when I'm not home, so it isn't a priority for me.

We had the Motorola for the first 18 months, then it crapped out and Motorola refused to fix it because it was more than a year old, so we replaced it with a foscam. For a newborn, I would still get the Motorola again. I much preferred having an actual monitor that was on at all times. The foscam app on my phone kills my battery. Now that they're older that's fine because we don't need to have it on at all times.

When we first looked at monitors, DH thought he wanted one he could access while at work. But in reality, the only time he would've been able to see her would be when she's napping. We have a motorola one (for 2 yrs now) and it works great. When #2 arrives we'll probably add a second camera.

We have Foscams all over our house, we use them for a security system, though, not a baby monitor.

If you aren't pregnant yet, I wouldn't decide on a video monitor because in a year or two, they're going to be a LOT more technologically advanced!

I am in love with our Foscam. Favorite baby item we own (and when we go out of town we use it to peek in on our cat!).
