My sister is in the early stages of wedding planning. My family is in AL and her fiancé is from Boston. She has no desire for an AL wedding and wanted to have the wedding in the Boston area, but some of our siblings etc aren't too keen on flying. She wants a fall wedding when the leaves are changing. I suggested maybe halfway so it's drivable from Northern AL and Boston and you still have the pretty fall colors. Any location suggestions-either area or venue? She's going for Fall so not the beach. Just a shot in the dark here. Thanks!

Charlottesville or pretty much any where in the Shenandoah Valley is beautiful in the fall! I don't know of any specific venues to hold a wedding, but Charlottesville probably has a ton of options. Richmond would also be a good place to look at, but it's not as picturesque in my opinion.

Charlottesville! It's in the mountains, it's beautiful in the fall. There are tons of vineyards that make awesome wedding venues. Check out King Family, Grace Estate, Pippin Hill, to name just a few.

Definitely Charlottesville. Cute town, tons of shops & restaurants, hotels, vineyards, mountains.
I've been to weddings at Veritas Vineyards, Barbourville, and Boarshead. All were really beautiful. -

I would also echo Charlottesville! I've only been here for a year so I'm not a VA expert but it's a really cute town and everyone tells me to go there in the fall!! Also my best friend from back home was in a wedding there.

Hey, another vote for Charlottesville! But if she's seriously considering it, start looking ASAP! The farms and wineries that do weddings around there book up SO FAST.
And if she wants something more off the beaten path, this is an hour southwest of Charlottesville: http://www.historicriverview.com My friends got married there, and it's totally gorgeous. You can get married with the river in the background, and the grounds are really pretty. Down side: not a whole lot going on in Lynchburg. It's a teeny little town, but Charlottesville's only an hour away!

If most folks are flying in, I'd suggest something close to Dulles (would make direct flights easier).
Bull Run winery in Manassas is really nice and still rural, but not super far from DC so there's still a lot to do if some want to make a longer vacation out of it
Ashburn and Leesburg would also be less than an hour from Dulles and really pretty. Lots of wineries, manors, and micro breweries
